Hey look, "Teen Titans" finally remembered that Kid Eternity had been kidnapped by Calculator!

Uhm. Well. Some closure is better than none, right?

(On the upside, this was revealed to not be the real Calculator so, hey, maybe he's really okay.)

Guess the writers finally got the memo that friends don't leave friends to twist in the wind, huh?

I know dead is dead and everything but this IS Kid Eternity, and if he died wouldn't he just you know go back to hell or something? And the solicits have been talking about a Lost Titan coming back. And it can be a coincidence that right before that they finally talk about Kit. Right? ....

I did really like that Cassie seemed super upset about it because even though they only really knew each other for a short time they really did seem to have a nice bond going between them.

I totally shouldn't have laughed. But I did. Otoh, I think that says more about how bad the Teen Titans title has been for so long than it does about me.

I haven't been paying attention to Teen Titans for a while. I thought they had stopped killing Teen Titans willy-nilly.

This was before they stopped that, around the time Eddie, and Marvin died. Pretty much around the exact same time Eddie died they just didn't know. It's just finally being adressed now.

I wish it was Eddie ;_; But Krul pretty much confirmed that while he's sad he's dead he can't do anything about that.

And Mia! 8D I wish. I don't know why everyone (including me) Is assuming that the Titan is dead/thought to be dead. Aah I actually hadn't thought of that at all.

Yeah, considering his origin is dying before his time and being allowed to come back and summon forth other dead folks as a bonus, killing him is about as likely to stick as killing Resurrection Man. In fact, wasn't he supposed to be a ghost that can manifest tangibly rather than a physically living person? That was certainly the impression I got from the Morrison/Fegredo series that introduced him to post-Crisis continuity.

Indeed, especially after KE made a point that he was wary of joining since it might bring magical forces to fight against the Teen Titans. So the group not thinking something was wrong instantly was unbelievably stupid.

How many Calculators are running around? Here, Red Robin, Birds of Prey...it's like he used his Kilg%re upgrade to spawn an entire army of him selves.

Can Calculators multiply?

Oh snap!

This is the same Calculator as the RR one, though. This issue is actually the Red Robin plotline, he phoned a friend (or bunch of friends) and hijacked their book, probably because absolutely nothing of interest is really happening in TT.

Excited for Solstice though!

Yeah, I know, I did actually read the issue. I don't consider that specially interesting, though, I'm sort of sad Damian's leaving the team. I know a lot of people dislike him, but I thought it made sense for Damian to be on the Titans because that's what they're for: superheroes who aren't trained to work alone (obviously Cassie, Kon and probably Bart would all be capable of working alone, but none of them have ever really been trained to do so, while Tim was probably the most independent Robin of all time and was always fucking off and running away to abandoned cities without Bats.) Obviously I love seeing the YJ kids hang out together and, like, group hug, but I kind of think that Tim has had so much more time spent on him as a character that he's inevitably going to hijack the book/leadership/character development for people like Cassie and Rose who desperately need attention and need to be taken seriously as characters. You can do that kind of thing with a new character; but their interactions with Tim are all set in stone from the last time he was in Teen Titans (Rose: naked crushing; Cassie: lots of crying.)

Honestly I'm just not looking forward to the inevitable leadership clusterfuck. Which shouldn't even be a big deal because Cassie was actually *elected* leader by basically this same group during Young Justice and she did a good job too, but now that she's all sexy and non-wig-wearing she can't be smart and tough and competent too apparently.

Wow, I have a lot of rage, sorry.

I agree. I prefer Tim being solo for now. What also upsets me with this issue is the fact that Damian being on the team was just a one time thing. I find it interesting how he bonds with Rose and the young ladies on the team seem a lot more patient and open minded to having him, yet the guys being dicks from the jump and never giving him a fair chance. Not to say that Damian makes it easy because he truly doesn't but still. That and people once again forget that Damian was literally raised the way he is. When you're raised a certain way from birth, it's hard to change. Him being on the team would've been good for him as well as developing him as a character. Get him use to working with others, have him understand that family dynamic that usually is the Teen Tians. Have him understand the importance of friendship and whatnot. All they did was just close the door to his growth and..I just don't like it.

Right. And I mean, there are in-character reasons for all of that (Rose and Raven didn't grow up with Tim in YJ the way Kon and Bart did - I mean they were on TT with Tim but they weren't close and I don't think this run of TT has ever been as close as YJ, while Cassie might be more open to having an inexperienced shit as her Robin compared to the apparent leadership challenge Tim presents; on the other hand, Bart has generally been a welcoming personality and I never got the sense Gar gave a shit about Tim, though I think Kon's reactions are very in-character). At the same time, though, even though I'm sure it's not editorially mandated and is just a coincidence, this seems like it might be a really interesting aspect of Damian's character that relates to his upbringing by Talia. He's also gotten on pretty well with Steph in a slap-slap-aww kind of way. Is the fact that he gets on OK with attractive young women with a penchant for bloody violence an unfortunate coincidence produced by writers who can't imagine women being mean to children, or is it because he was raised by similar and they're familiar to him?

Him being on the team would've been good for him as well as developing him as a character. Get him use to working with others, have him understand that family dynamic that usually is the Teen Titans.

Yeah. I should have said in my comment, although TT is usually for people who aren't ready or willing to work alone, with Damian it's less that he couldn't work alone and more that him working alone would be a really dumb idea because he hasn't got a hell of a lot of empathy at this stage. I think he's doing good work with Dick and Steph (the next-most-recent issue of Batgirl was fucking adorable) and that will probably get him there eventually, but IA completely that TT would have been GREAT for Damian.

Mostly fine but IMO there was one contender for World's Most Out of Character Moment:

Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but when was the last time Tim was in a night club? Voluntarily?

I honestly can't think of a single time.

And yet I'm still liking the bits of Tim I've seen in this issue better than anything since Yost left Red Robin.

Well, if you follow his original origin, he isn't supposed to die until 2017

He died 75 years before his time. 1942 (the year of publication) + 75 = 2017

I agree completely. This was a phenomenal but missed opportunity. Here's a usually supportive team designed to help kids learn to be better heroes that *also* contains people who know exactly what he's going through in the trying-not-to-be-evil stakes. Rose and Raven, in particular, had a lot to offer him in that respect, which probably explains their patience with him/advocacy for him.

I'm actually quite annoyed that we never saw him interact with Raven. She trumps him on the evil parent/destined to be evil side of things so much it's not funny, and was raised from birth to be a pacifist to his killer. She has a lot of patience and a lifetime of experience mastering self-control, two things Damian needs to learn, and knows the value of giving people additional chances very, very well. It could have been very good for him, and given her a relationship with someone that isn't fundamentally based on her need for support from them.

Interesting that she was absent from the Tim love-in shot.
