Thought some of you might get a kick out of this for the obvious reasons...

There's more info here and at James Gunn's website.

That does look awesome--basically what Kick-Ass should have been.

I think my problem is that it was two potentially interesting concepts that were rolled into one: If Millar just did "what if Spider-Man had no powers and fought crime anyway?" or "what if Batman & Robin was a fucked-up father-daughter relationship?", either one would have been a lot stronger. It would be like if in Action Comics #4, Superman suddenly got ambushed by Batman; the reason why they work so well now is that they had several years of getting the character down and making them work on their own before they met.

I'm sorry. Did I see Captain Tightpants in there? Possibly in spandex?

Whulp, I'm in.

Ahh Ellen Page..*sighs dreamily* To me she will forever be the perfect Kitty Pryde, even if X3 sucked. So yet, another reason I will see this movie. Plus it just looks so good and so damn funny.

Hmm. This kind of reminds me of 'Defendor' - good movie if no one's seen it - only with the hero being an ordinary nerdy guy instead of being mentally challenged.
Overall, it doesn't look bad, and I'll probably see it at some point, but - well, 'regular person decides to become a superhero' is kind of becoming its own subgenre at this point. 'Defendor' did it, 'Kick-Ass' did it, the recent 'Green Hornet' was arguably an example, there's another one whose name escapes me - basically, while I'm not dissing 'Super', it's not as original at this point as it would have been a few years ago.

Perhaps this is a case of others getting similar ideas while he was working on it, then - a lot of things can happen in seven-odd years, after all.

Anyone see his previous super hero movie The Specials? Pretty good despite the obviously limited budget.

Verdict: You know what first ran through my head, when I discovered I was the world's strongest man?
The Weevil: No.
Verdict: Think of the pussy, Weevil.
The Weevil: What's a pussy-weevil?

Seriously, Rob Lowe, Thomas Hayden Church, et all? Killer.

And Eight has to be one of the craziest/awesome superpowered characters ever. Not so much in the power, but the execution on screen (though thinking about eight different people suddenly sharing one mind is kinda Fridge Horror; luckily it seems to have given Eight an oddly pleasant outlook on life).

That alone might make me want to rent this, The Specials is AWESOME!

(And Jaime Kennedy looking more like Nightcrawler than any non-actual-Nightcrawler character has a right to doesn't hurt)

I gotta say, that trailer doesn't really make me want to see it. It just looks awkward and unpleasant.

It's awkward I agree, but that's sort of the point, these aren't the Avengers or the JLA, these are the second raters, the underfunded ones who try their best, but are just never going to be THAT great.

A couple of the characters ARE downright unpleasant too, but there is some justice in the movie, and there are some very sweet moments too, and some very funny ones too.

I like everyone involved here, but this just looks awful. It's like the worst possible combination of failed ironic super-hero parody and unfunny pseudo "indie" movie I've ever seen.

Yeah, the "ironic super hero parody" isn't a big seller for me, although the trailer looks better than the usual run of such things.
