Whatever that's about, I'm sure it will tie into the present day going-ons by story arc's end.

And even then the information about how to perform the ritual actually came from him. Well, Culp who was possessing him but still.

I'd guess the body count of the original ritual pretty much wiped the knowledge of it from most of the esoteric community.

Sort of like the superbeing origin equivalent of the 1960's "If you can remember them, you weren't there" :)
