Batman June solicits of interest

Batman June solicits are up at The Source!

A familiar um, face joins the BoP. Steph joins up with another female sidekick. And a few of the Batboys have to work together.

BIRDS OF PREY #13
Written by GAIL SIMONE
Art and cover by JESUS SAIZ
Things get ugly as The Birds of Prey are trapped in a cunning puzzle box of a skyscraper, pursued by a nightmarish killer who holds all the cards, leaving only the Huntress, the reluctant aide of Renee Montoya, and The Question to free them! And what effect does the death of Oracle have on the team as they race to escape from hell?
On sale JUNE 8 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

The art in BoP has really let me down. The art in the last book was atrocious. I'm hoping that Jesus Saiz becomes the regular artist.

BATGIRL #22
Written by BRYAN Q. MILLER
Art by PERE PEREZ
Cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
When Stephanie Brown arrives in London for a top-secret Batman Incorporated assignment, jet lag, lost luggage and those terribly difficult accents are the least of Batgirl’s problems – the actual Greenwich Mean has been stolen, and as all of London literally grinds to a halt, it’s up to Batgirl and Squire to save the United Kingdom! Tally-ho!
On sale JUNE 15 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

SQUEEE! I've been excited about Steph going to this London finishing school and the fact that she's teaming up with Beryl is AWESOME!!

BATMAN AND ROBIN #24

Maybe it's because I'm a midlander that they both sound easily understandable to me!

My sister's ex had a great Stoke accent (and was a great guy all round), but my American stepmother confided in me that she couldn't understand a single word he said. Last I heard he was teaching English to Dutch students... I'm still curious as to what kind of effect THAT would produce.

I think it is sometimes down to individual people, really, and how strong their accent is. Mine's pretty diluted because I've watched TV all my life and that's influenced my accent, but my girlfriend has a hilarious Australian/Londoner/Stokie mix because of how her parents moved around.

How much can Oracle help out Huntress when Huntress is stuck in the same place with Renee/The Question, given Renee isn't in on the secret of Oracle being alive?

The same way Nathan Ford can talk to Hardison while sitting right next to the person he's running a con on: technology.

Oh, right. *smacks forehead* Sorry. I forget this was BOP, where such things are considered witchcraft and thus taboo.

I've seen BBCAmerica shows that use subtitles, so apparently some Americans do need help understanding English.

Another story with the Birds up against someone who 'holds all the cards'?

Name a BOP story by Gail Simone that didn't follow that pattern. I'm not going to dig out the link, but I recall from a few years back she stated her definition of "bad ass" on YABS and it was specifically in relation to someone who got back up after being knocked down. She has absolutely no concept of post-modernism, where you go into a story expecting the hero to win and are there just to enjoy the how of it all, which is why I can almost certainly say the next arc will be about how someone else "holds all the cards" and the Birds have to work their way up to beating them.

As someone who does understand post-modernism (at least enough to be a hipster snob), enjoyed Oracle back in the day when she was a force to be feared, and accepts as a given that Black Canary ranks up there with Nightwing and Katana in unpowered fighting skills...it's quite frustrating.

By superhero standards, the biker leather was quite tame. Much more practical, in general. Also rather hot. And then there's the dildo-head costume's acne issues...

Judging from how I and my fellow Dutch students behaved in bilingual school... we'd try to copy his accent because back then we thought any Britisch accent was the coolest thing ever.

Wth, I misread you as asking whether you were alone in hoping that Jason would be written Lost Days style.

Either way, even if you are only hoping in vain then I am right there being delusional with you.

It all depends. I download British programs all the time, which means I have to make do without subtitles (and I actually use subtitles when watching most programs on TV due to loud background music/sound effects and actor mumbling). Most of the time I understand British accents just fine, but sometimes I'll have no idea what a character just said. (And don't get me started on a character like Phil Mitchell- I rarely know what he's saying even when he's sober.)

But a lot of times my confusion was regarding unfamiliar colloquialisms or slang, not simply accents.

....I thought Jason was like, nineteen. Why does he get bigger/taller/bulkier every time I see him somewhere?

I assumed he was like twenty-one. He's a touch older than Steph, I think. But to answer your question, it's because that's how he looked in the earlier B&R arc, and that's what they want us to see as "the way things are" now.

I always thought Jason was about two years older than Tim, but who knows. That depiction of Jason on the cover is odd.

I've never really been into accents myself. I've heard at least one American describe the Nottingham accent as "atrocious" though!

I still think Brit guys are the hottest in the world, but that has nothing to do with their accents... It's the only issue I get patriotic over.
