The folks behind Young Justice have stated that they're working to make the tie-in comic a companion piece that will supplement the TV show, not just a monthly exercise in filler material, and the final line of dialogue this issue makes that evident.

This issue takes place shortly after the pilot two-parter, during Superboy's first night at Mount Justice.

Superboy, eventually realizing there's something odd about everything going on, decides to test a theory.

The teleporter system normally announces the identity of anyone who enters it (as we've seen multiple times in the show, e.g. "Superboy, B-Zero-Four" -- and bonus trivia: according to the creators, the voice is supposed to be Catherine Cobert, from the JLI days). The fact that it doesn't announce Aquaman is the evidence Superboy needs that none of these people are real.

The little guy was picking up on psychic residue left in the cave from a traumatic past event.

I facepalmed at that too. Then again if it's all coming out of Superboy's head, maybe he doesn't know the difference between lapse and lax? I'm being generous...

Well, at least Miss Martian didn't say "Hello, Megan!" while hitting herself in the head, at least in the one page she's been in. If she's like that the rest of the issue, it's a better average than the show!

Aw, cute story. The "Superboy hates monkeys" running gag is probably my favorite/the only one I like from the show. The only running gag that irks me is "Hello Megan", and I'm getting used to that.

I hope the Gene-Gnome with a crush makes it to the show proper.

It's a reference to this issue of JLA, where the Joker is directly responsible for the JLA leaving Happy Harbor for the Satellite.

I assume Snapper Carr + Joker in a reference to a traumatic event implies the events of JLA #77 actually occurred in the universe as well.

Y'know, Megan and Superboy have actually started to grow on me, especially now that Megan's behavior (and that damn catch phrase) make sense. Superboy's got a rather nasty case of Raised by Wolves going; of course he's angry, he's confused and the one person he seems to really want a connection with wants nothing to do with him. And I'm betting that none of that telepathic training he was given involved social interaction; he was a weapon, and the original program probably didn't include having him actually dealing with people. In his place, I'd be pretty pissed off too. And Megan's understanding of humans comes from a TV show that's probably decades old (also, I kinda like the Bakes Cookies thing). She's been on Earth about six months, according to the events of episode 9. Eventually, I'm sure both of them will adjust.

I actually like how we're seeing Superboy move beyond the angry thing, too. He smiles much more now, for a start, and he's started to get a sense of humour. Wonder if it'll be the reverse of the comics, and he gets less angsty as time goes on?
