I'm more irked, again, at Brother Blood being considered a magic user. The only magical thing about him was his robe, and that had vaguely religious properties since IIRC it was apparently made from the robe Christ wore at the Crucifixion.

Only the Geoff Jones created Brother Blood did that, and he's the cause of the problem, since the implication is that the Chruch has roots in magic, when it doesn't. But then, given his treatment of Raven, Mr Jones doesn't see any difference between "mystic" and "magic" (and there is a definite difference in the DCU) and jusdging by her cameo here, that's carried forward.

They also retconned it so that the Church of Blood worshiped Trigon instead of the Christian God, so there's that difference from the original, I guess.

Though give it a few years and they'll just merge it with the Religion of Crime and say that the Church of Blood was intended to worship Darkseid.

To be fair, the Church of Blood was never Christian, nor any other deity-centred religion. It was a vaguely defined personality cult as much as anything, they worshipped blood itself, through Brother Blood.

I think you misread it. I saw it as the first group EXPECTING the second group to replace the sun. That was the plan.

The implication is they sacrificed the sun for power, expecting the magic hero's of the world to in turn sacrifice THEMSELVES creating a new sun. This magic sun gave them even MORE power (a possibly unexpected benefit), and removed almost all the hero's that could oppose them.

More of a Duskblade, I think--ideally, Clark would be a Paladin, but banishing isn't a pallie ability, I think.

They can turn undead, which can either make the undead flee or destroy them, but it's not quite the same as banishing. (Disclaimer: I've just started playing my first paladin, under Pathfinder rules.)

Paladins can turn undead as a cleric half their lvl, and anyone with turn undead can turn planars with the improved turning epic feat.

Blue Lanterns could turn red giants into a younger blue sun but I doubt they could specifically fix it back to its regular yellow. And it's possible after the sun was offered up magics would've stopped the Blue rings from altering it.

What's so special about our sun? Dime-a-dozen, there's a hundred billion more where that came from in this galaxy alone.

How many of those support life? Even in a universe as densely populated by aliens as the DCU that's still only about one in a billion. Maybe magic in those one in a billion suns that makes it able to support life and therefore able to be sacrificed.

Hey remember Final Night?

You know, that Green Lantern event where Hal Jordan sacrificed himself to rekindle the sun?

I may not be a genius but creating an entirely new (magic) sun seems harder than rekindling a dying star. So unless Final Night was retconned by Final Crisis then Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Raven and co. are pulling a page from Hal Jordan's book. Now while I don't have a problem with this (unless it's his relationship with Carol, then it's all just PIS) it smacks of A COMPLETE LACK OF ORIGINALITY! DC has done this before, did they think we'd forget because it was a decade ago?

P.S: The only lesson I've learned from Hal Jordon is that he will f$%* anything. Anything.
