Ooo! I love it! Give Ian a medal for understanding her character better than Team Ninja. I don't know who that Samus was from Other M, but anyone who willingly limits her attributes till some 'guy' says she can is no Samus at all.

Excellent. I also really like how they emphasized the high heels aspect of her zero suit. If you check back to any of her previous games, whether they be the Prime series, Zero Mission or even Smash Brothers Brawl, Samus' Zero Suit has very regular practical shoes. Now if you look at the Zero Suit in Other M, her heels arch her feet up to such a degree that you could launch a rocket into orbit at that angle.

Again, thanks for sharing that comic. I've never seen it before and I totally dug the message. If you want to see one game critic have harsh words to say about this game, check out Yahtzee and his review of it.

Yeah selective PTSD, which isn't how PTSD works!

Samus had selective PTSD in the metroid manga . . . but she was also unrelentingly awesome in that, so I forgive.

Yeah but manga Samus didn't have poor characterization which fans defended with the PTSD excuse so yeah no problem there.

I know, I became disappointed with a lot of people from a certain popular Metroid website because they kept attacking or dismissing anyone who was the least bit critical to this game (even having mods ban people).

I'm so glad I left their messageboard.

In fairness, it was Sakamoto's vision of the character which drove how she was portrayed in Other M. Team Ninja just basically did the grunt work with the actual gameplay, the part where some say she actually feels like Samus (until the next cutscene, which was done by yet another company).

The newest Metroid completely turned me off the series, I have to say. It was a misogynistic piece of crap and really retconned everything that made Samus so badass in her previous iterations.

Fuck yeah this is Samus Aran! Badass Bountyhunter but also a compassionate soul.

I hated what Team Ninja did to her and Sakamoto... Ughh he puts Other: M after Super Metroid and before Fusion and still says Samus is in a stage of her life were she's "immature and unprofessional" also the way she cried and was submissived to Adam...Seriously? In Metroid Fusion she just gave a big old FU to the Adam computer and said that while she respected her real CO, she hated taking orders from him and did what SHE thought was right (disobeying orders and pissing off the Galactic Federation is what saved the Universe from another possible Metroid infestation).

IMO they should let Retro studios handle an non-FPA Metroid game, Retro treats Samus with more respect than Team Ninja and they did rebel against the Zero suit Samus design a bit (especially in Hunters). Also I loved how you could see Samus' backstory through the Chozo Lores and the way the Chozo describe her as being a gentle and compassionate being yet a warrior whose eyes burned and whose wrath was terrible.

Oh and speaking of Chozos, where were my Chozos at during Other: M? This was suppose to be the game that explained Samus' backstory right? And no Chozos?! No thanks.

Sorry but Samus and Wonder Woman are one of my favorite heroes, and I get touchy because their characters are being ruined.

Also, whatd'ya think of Ian's take? I like Generous!Samus (though she's gotta pay for maintenance and such on her ship somehow! Presumably she's skimming enough for fuel and reloads).

Probably she keeps the cash on jobs where everyone's been wiped out before she gets there.

Which I mean, that's gonna be a lot of jobs.

I don't mind generous Samus, that hob isn't cheap and I like to think she knows how to manage her money and that she's filthy rich. So it wouldn't be different if say Batman gave money to a poor orphan child he identified with.

Also this reminds me in an interview, Retro Studios originally wanted in Prime 3 to have Samus do some actual bounty hunting. But Sakamoto shot that idea down stating that "No, Samus is a hero" and Retro was confused because all these years Samus was refered as a Bounty Hunter!

So yeah Sakamoto says Samus has to do it for free, because she's a good girl... bleeech! Hey she needs to eat too!

Maybe the real reason Samus starts from scratch at the beginning of each game is 'cause she keeps giving away her super-missile maintenance cash.
