The ComicBookResources has the fallout from Fear Itself.

They were not kidding that this was a status changer.

From the article:

The publisher would disclose no information regarding the character or image other than to say "Fear Itself" will have a "huge impact" on "Black Panther: The Man Without Fear." Currently written by David Liss, the series is illustrated by Francesco Francavilla, who also drew the American Panther character study.

The new look may resemble the profile above.

I understand T'challa feeling he has to find a new super ID, what with his sister being the 'official' Black Panther, i.e. the ruler of Wakanda.

But this? REALLY?

Personally, I have complete and total faith in Marvel.

...and by that, I mean I have total faith in the fact that this will be even dumber than it looks.

Damn you, Priest, for making me a die hard fan!

Personally, I like costumes that are more functional than style, though I'd wonder why T'Challa would need body-armor and ammo pouches. :P

Not to say it's not a nifty costume, I think it looks pretty cool, I just don't see T'Challa wearing anything in the same vein.

Then again, I haven't been following Black Panther for awhile now, not since Hudlin took the reins ages back and he married Storm.

It's a cool costume, to bad I can't think of a single way to implement it that isn't horribly offensive.

I'm just holding out hope that this isn't T'challa. Marvel hasn't actually said it would be him.

It could be anyone else in the suit. Maybe Marvel is just trying to stir up controversy.

The American Panther, the Spider-Panther..

T'Challa's aiming to build a closet of variants, isn't he?

You know, I just love that Jessica (of all people) had to put on a Spidey sweater to fit in. Guess her regular costume wasn't arachnid enough.

It's like... wow. I don't really follow Black Panther but even I know this just sort of kidney punches everything the character is about and, oh, about forty years of character development.

WORD.

T'Challa's always been above such petty concerns. He was comfortable in his own skin, and had no need to borrow the skin or the costume of others.

I took one look and assumed (prayed, whatever) that it's a Wakandan-American inspired by the Black Panther to become a US based hero. Like "The Batmen of Many Nations", in reverse, since it's an American inspired by a foreign hero.

Someone suggested Eli Bradley, which ... god, no.

Funny that they're trying to American-ize the Black Panther (well, maybe) considering one of the most well known groups in the US who fought for Civil Rights were the Black Panthers.

Okay, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but going back to his origin in the FF the constant thing about T'Challa has always been that he was strong enough, smart enough, self-assured enough and competent enough that he didn't need validation from anyone else. He was what many people at that time feared -- a powerful Black man who didn't need authorization by anyone else. He was the Black man that White men feared, and he was not bothered by their fear in the least.

Compare with Wonder Woman who was also strong enough, smart enough, self-assured enough and competent enough that she didn't need validation from anyone else. Se was what many people at that time feared -- a powerful woman who didn't need authorization by anyone else. She was the woman that men feared, and she was not bothered by their fear in the least.

Ladies and gentlemen, I fear that we're looking at Marvel's equivalent of the new Wonder Woman. God help us all.

Black Panther: Identity Crisis

I vastly prefer Bucky as Cap, but this will be worth it for the massive amount of racist wank it'll probably generate alone.

Ummm..ok...I design wise. Not bad. The idea? Not bad. The problem? It's the fucking Black Panther. I kinda feel like this..idk..idk if it's exactly offensive to his culture, but it's definitely not right. It will work if they put this on a completely new character or one who hasn't been used in a while. Plus it doesn't fit T'Challa. Last I checked, he's a man who proudly represents where he's from so..seriously why in the hell would he wear this?

And how long do they believe we believe this will last, before T'Challa reclaims his kingdom?

If the Big Two based more of their stories on, y'know, storytelling, rather than marketing decisions and on-the-fly booking (every bit as skillfully done as WWE and TNA, no, really), I'd be much more inclined to buy their current comics.
