Last page of Avengers #11

The entire rosters of the Avengers alpha teams are trying to stop Parker Robbins, the Hood, from reassembling the Infinity Gauntlet.

Their efforts prove amusing.

But as people have been warning him throught the issue, Parker should give up the Infinity Gems before it destroys him.

The Hood manages to escape and capture another gem and frustrate the Avengers and assembled Illuminati.

Parker is about the find out the hard way why you don't go after stuff like the gems.

It tends to summon big bad scary things way out of his league.

Behold Thanos. He is smiling.

Master of Death? More like continually rejected by Death.

When he had the Infinity Gauntlet he was the master of Death though, she did not embrace him as an equal (and thus worthy to be her lover) because whilst he had sought parity, he was actually now conceptually out of HER league.

They go back and forth. He's been her consort before for good swaths of time, but most of the time we see him onscreen they're fighting. Which sorta makes sense. When he and Lady Death are doing well, he's not going to hang around losers like most Marvel comic protagonists, now is he?

It's all being darkly majestic, and snarking it up at parties with the Endless and cross-dimensional versions of Eternity and whatnot.

I would love to read a comic about that. I wonder what they gossip about...

There was a story in Endless Nights like that, where Dream and his family went to a party with the anthropomorphic aspects of a bunch of Stars and Galaxies. It was pretty great.

Meh. As I've said elsewhere, Bendis just grabs any popular character or semi popular and throws them in his series with little logic or reason.

Also, given how Nebula was able to overwhelm all the cosmic beings, Hood really isn't in that much danger.

[identity profile] daningram.insanejournal.com 2011-03-30 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
He's got the best ones, though. Time, space, power, telepathy and freakin' reality.

Have to say, once you have any ONE of those Gem's you're at deity level, how much of a loser do you have to be to have five of the six and STILL get owned.

Reality, the one gaping plot hole of the reality gem. One of my favorite moments in this series was when he went to the Baxter Building and found Reds containment structure, and was like, "Wow, it would be really hard to get to that normally. But in REALITY, its all ready in my hand," and just used his gem to get it.

And then he forgets he can do that. Oh, I love comic books!

[personal profile] arilou_skiff 2011-03-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
IIRC, the Reality game is a bit tricky: It's basically need the other gems supporting it (Power to feed it, mind to control it etc.) to work to it's full potential, unless you REALLY know what you're doing with it it's not that useful on it's own.

Also, the Soul Gem can be ued to disrupt the others, that's why it's so very bad.

This better not end with the Hood beating Thanos.

I really hope there's some explanation on how he got back from the Cancerverse (and what happened to Star-Lord and Nova).

Much as I loathe Bendis (on principle, and shooting Bobbi in the gut), I think you can pretty much mutter, "Reality Gem," and excuse anything remotely like continuity.

I hate when they do a big character-centric event that's about dealing with them for a long time (Thanos Imperative, WWHulk), and then the result doesn't even last a year.

Thanos Imperative wasn't really about dealing with Thanos, it was about Thanos dealing with a bunch of other shit.

The end of that comic was pretty much like "oh gosh they're totally gone for real this time definitely, uh, we guess".

Where the fuck is my Nova and Star-Lord bitches!

Once again Bendis ignores continuity! I mean I loved his small Steve and Tony being the mom and dad team moment (and Avengers Prime) but shit like this makes me want him to stick to Ultimate Spider-Man and stay there.

spikespeigel: (Default)

[personal profile] spikespeigel 2011-03-31 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Wait. If Thanos is back, does that mean Nova and Starlord won't be far behind?

[identity profile] tahngarth.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
You think Bendis reads books other than his own? We're talking about the man who can't keep continuity straight between books publishing the same storyline as his, and you think he'd have read cosmic Marvel? :)
schala_kid: Stephanie Brown as Batgirl (Default)

[personal profile] schala_kid 2011-03-31 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Highly unlikely, methinks Bendis ignored everything in Thanos Imperative. Nova and Star-Lord won't be addressed unless Bendis or another writer want to use them.

Pisses me off because Cosmic Marvel is probably the best thing Marvel has gotten out.

I'd be more bothered like this but coming back from death like it ain't even a thing is exactly playing by the rules of the last few years of Cosmic Marvel.
