Interdimensional Ladies' Man

Four scans from this week's Exiles #2.

So the Nu-Exiles have arrived in an alternate Genosha, tasked with helping Wolverine, but instead find Wolverine's head on a pike and Magneto triumphant.  They take a look at the history of the island, and find that in this reality Professor X and Magneto made their relatioship work and formed the X-Men together along Xavier's lines, drawing in members of groups like the Brotherhood and the Hellfire Club.  In the "can't win for losing" category, this united mutant front just made people more suspicious of them, and Sentinels killed Professor X, leaving Magneto to carry on alone (and hook up with Moira, whose wedding is nigh).  After Xavier's assassination, war broke out, and regular heroes led by Captain America sided with the government against them.  Eventually, they gave mutantkind Genosha to live in, but have been trying to nuke it since.  They aren't sure why Wolverine was trying to get rid of Magneto.

The Exiles decide to infiltrate the royal palace by swapping in their Wanda and Lorna (who, since they grew up with dad in this reality, are bitchy rivals and hate each other) for the AU Wanda and Lorna:

Wanda and Jean being friends seems to be an idea that Parker is really fixed on, between this and First Class.

Team B heads off to take out Lorna.  They select Panther to make the stealthy KO, but he apparently quails at the last second at hitting such a pretty face, and hits on her instead.  Forge and Polaris intervene, and an extended battle between the two Lornas over hitting each other witH Forge's metal arm ensues...

Hilariously, they're given away by Polaris not wearing the black dress like gossipy Jean earlier read she would.

I like this version of Black Panther more than the regular version.

Based on these pages, he reminds me of Peter Parker (in a good way). Especially his mask's expressions. (Though that first shot of him with his mask off is just weird--between one eye squinting and the huge grin--but the rest is better)

[identity profile] blake_reitz.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Without the mask, he looks a lot like he was drawn by CrissCross. Especially with the huge grin and squinting eyes!

I was absolutely expecting him to be Peter, with the wise-cracking and walking on walls.

[identity profile] neotoma.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought he was some version of Peter too. Maybe he just spent too much time with the Avengers as a child?

Motto.

[identity profile] mykie1234.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do we know yet if he's a mutant?

[identity profile] akodo_rokku.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently yes, either Mystique or Kitty mentions at the party later that the security systems would have kicked him off the island if he didn't have the X-Gene.

[identity profile] pyrotwilight.insanejournal.com 2009-05-13 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually it says if he entered the island but since they were teleported in it seems likely they bypassed that. Of course we could presume they have such scanners in the city as well though since it'd be silly not to.

Still it'd be fun to see him suddenly activate his X-Gene somehow.

Oh, God, the "please stop accusing me of being unfaithful to my mother" just made me die. I have to start reading this.

Indeed you must!

I need a Jeff Parker Is My Master Now icon.

A terrific issue it was! I'm of course now worried about which character will die. It's been two issues, we're due.

Wanda in her undergarments was a nice plus.

I love The Panther and his silly expressions. Interestingly the issue kinda suggests he might be a mutant without knowing it. And his parents was fun, here I just assumed he was a young T'Challa.

And yes, a tug of war wrestling match with Forge's arm is just plain hilarious.

They're all alive on the cover of issue 4. Of course covers lie.

Right this new run of Exiles goes on my list.

Curse you all.

I'm not a regular Marvel reader, but I do like to pride myself in knowing most of the characters pretty well. But, why are there two Wandas?

[identity profile] arilou_skiff.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the Exiles, the entire premise is a team of misfits drafted from various different alternate realities to fix the timeline. They're Wandas from different universes.

The original series was AWESOME for the first few arcs, and even had a good run by CHUCK AUSTEN (Yes, It's as shocking as it sounds)

[identity profile] foxhack.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
And then we had Claremont reboot the thing, and nobody speaks of that ever again.

[identity profile] pyrotwilight.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Who did what now?

Exiles ended at 89. I've been waiting for the series to re-start for two years.

Well Betsy got with Sabretooth which I thought was one redeeming aspect... maybe the only one...

[identity profile] volksjager.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I have only ever picked up a few issues of this book. I like the way they were doing Scarlet witch so I thought I woukld try it out long-term. I was NOT dissapointed...

[identity profile] seawolf10.insanejournal.com 2009-05-07 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy fuck.

JEFF PARKER is writing EXILES?! Fucking SOLD. This might even be better than Winick's original creation run!

I will be picking this and the first issue up ASAP, and I'll be buying all the issues, and the inevitable trade -- something I'd only been doing for Secret Six up until now.

THIS gets my support. THIS is good old-fashioned comic-book fun.

I don't know him or what he's written before but he IS awesome.

[identity profile] neuhallidae.insanejournal.com 2009-05-08 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Who, Jeff Parker? Agents of Atlas and Marvel Adventures: Avengers will give you all you need to know on his awesome.

[identity profile] pyrotwilight.insanejournal.com 2009-05-08 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Marvel Adventures you say? Well I'm already getting the issues but now I'm doubly sold!

[identity profile] neuhallidae.insanejournal.com 2009-05-09 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't read MA: Fantastic Four, so I don't know how much of that he did, but he did MA: Avengers up through either 15 or 16.

[identity profile] menagerie.insanejournal.com 2009-05-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Exiles? Good again? So confused!

[identity profile] pyrotwilight.insanejournal.com 2009-05-08 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Kinda hard to believe.
