When last we saw Jimmy, he was so startled by the discovery that the girl he was on a date with was a fifth-dimensional imp that he promptly fled into the restaurant's restroom.

Upon walking out of the restroom, Jimmy finds himself in a new reality. For starters, it's now a few years into the future.

Okay, Jimmy ripping his shirt off with the Superman outfit underneath is a fun moment, and the last panel on the last page is fabulous!

I'm not quite sold on the colouring here (which is odd as such things don't normally bother me), it seems to be supersaturated to cartoon levels (if that makes any sense when talking about a comic), it's more distracting than anything.

Oh, and we have it on the best authority that bow-ties are cool, but Jimmy wearing a clip-on bow-tie? Not cool.

I love the coloration.

Then again, I am visually impaired, so what do I know?

This. Looks great to me, but I'm colorblind, soo...

The coloring seems to be an attempt to evoke the bright and jolly feel of Silver Age comics but might be overdone just a tad (sort of like how period films take care to only play the cool music of the era, even if the most popular song of the time was something dumb. Has anyone ever done a movie set in 1969 where the real #1 hit in the US-- "Sugar, Sugar"-- was getting a lot of airtime?).

I think at least part of it is is that the artist seems to have a Amanda Conner esque artstyle and that tended to get the same coloring as well to make it pop.

Yeah, I think it's the degree of colouration in conjunction with the style. (Look at how Jimmy's hair is practically radioactively radiant on the cover). This would work well with a style like Alan Davis, or Al Bigley, but with a realistic style, it's just a little too much.

Hr. I'd call Davis's art more realistic than Silva's...

Interesting, hadn't thought of Silva's like that. IMHO Alan Davis always idealises the physique of anyone he's drawing, that's not a criticism per se because it makes his males stunning, his females gorgeous and his kids adorably cute, but there's always a roundness to his art that makes me think of animation.

Mm. I see what you mean, but to my eye, while Davis might draw more idealized characters, Silva's are more stylized - the bodies are fairly realistic, but the faces...I think, as beautiful as Jimmy and Chloe are here, looked at from the perspective of 'if this was an accurate portrait of a real person', they'd be...'off' - Jimmy's freckles too even, their eyes oddly sized for their heads, the faces in general too mobile. (Also, this might simply be a matter of Silva drawing something in to give him(?)self an idea of how the faces will be working, and Dym not realizing it's supposed to be hidden, but they have transparent bangs whenever they go over their eyebrows or eyes.)

Knowing this community like I do, those last two panels will be immortalized in icon form. Knowing this community, some talented person will make this happen. Knowing this community, I will giggle madly when I use it for any "Context is for the weak" posts.

This book was just so much fun. Between this and Jimmy being the best part of the animated All-Star Superman movie, I'm becoming a Jimmy Olsen fan.

And that's terrible.

Jimmy has always had huge potential as a character, but most writers just use him as incidental at best, a punchline at worst. He works equally well as the normal guy who doesn't get the limelight, and the weirdness magnet who totally rolls with it.

Agree so, so, SO much. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this series will help him make a concrete leap from foil to legitimacy much like Lois Lane did in the 1980s. And his brilliant segment from this year's 80 Page Giant only made me even more hopeful.

I mean seriously, the guy is to Metropolis what Metropolis is to the DC universe — haven of soothing, cheery, cracky coziness.

PS: Do you have Superboy's number by any chance?

Aww. Maggie was adorable. But it's too early to marry into the Superman Dynasty dear, sorry.

The collection/one shot is so damn great. I was so happy to see it together since I didn't want to buy Action Comics to get it.

I don't really like having an all powerful character point out how great a relationship is. It always makes the relationship seem really forced.

I really hope Maggie Mxyzptlk shows up more. To help people through their troubles by flagrantly and flippantly altering reality.

Hell, I'd read that series.

This was really fantastic, you guys should definitely pick this up.
It was a lotta fun, and we need to send DC the message that fun comics can be successful too.

Oh Jimmy Olsen. How I adore you and your crazy, cosmically cruel "why does this stuff keep happening to me?" weirdness magnetness. Don't ever change. Please. You need to spread this stuff across the DC universe.

Jimbo, the polite term for that room is "fortress of solitude."

You've even got a big key to lock the door.

They really have no idea anymore how publishing works, do they?

I don't even have a favorite part of this issue. It's so good. I really loved how when he was Co-Superman, Jimmy kept talking about how COOL it is to wear his underwear on the outside.
