The one thing that pissed me off in Avengers: the Children's Crusade #5

People acting like Vision has no feelings.

Okay, so I gave in. I thought, Cassie's an okay character. Given, my least favorite character, but an okay character nonetheless.

SCRATCH THAT, SHE'S A DICK.

Nate, I forgive, since he's not quite totally aware that 1) Vision got newfangled feelings and humanity and 2) He was dating Cassie. I think.

Cassie, on the other hand, drops Vision like a hot potato as soon as Iron Lad drops in, forgetting that Vision--NO, JONAS, LOVED HER.

:I Cassie, you are dead to me. Dead to me.

....

Okay, rant over. Disregard all that I said up there, or most, anyway, since it's a rage-filled opinionated thingie. Unless, you know, you agree with me, at which point we can rant together.

I know Cassie hasn't done that yet but as of yet, she's still being insensitive to Jonas' feelings. I know she's not a total dick, but she still has dickery tendencies that I cannot let pass without them getting called out.

TBH Cassie's character has not appealed to me all that well. She was cruel to her mother, to her stepfather, she decided after two hours that Nate was her boyfriend... She is a brat. A brat with good qualities, but with the essential qualities of a brat, all the same.

Poor Jonas. He is his own person, dear god, and they treat him like a prop.

.........

And okay, so I laughed at the idea, even the suggestion, that Vision would go to Wanda again. Really, Nate, really?

Ideally for me, this series would end with the original Vision and the new Vision being merged, so we could finally have the right Vision back while not losing the new guy.

Don't get me wrong, Young Avengers has been cute, but I prefer my Avengers "classic".

Well I wouldn't go for merging them. Jonas has experiences, he's traveled all over the world, he has FEELINGS AND A LIFE. He speaks in slang because he learned it, not because it was input in his data.

I'd like it if Vision came back, forcing Vision II to get himself a different identity and be more Jonas than he is Vision.

Ummm... not sure about Nate bringing up the "still married" crap, as A) I was never sure that Wanda and Vision were ever legally married. Viewed each other as husband and wife, absolutely, but not legally married since he was non-human.

And given they had been been separated for years, and Wanda had had more than one relationship since then (Simon for starters, and possibly Cap, if you consider Chuck Austens run to be relevant and my memories of it are correct), it's hardly an issue to dig up now.

I'm pretty sure they were legally married, there's never been anything that stated they weren't. And given the history of the MU, I doubt they have any major issue with basic rights for non-humans.

Though that said, totally dick move on Iron Lad's part

But that's just Iron Lad being a dick - regardless of what would be decided in a hypothetical law court - he knows that Vision's hardly likely to argue that the (old) Vision and Wanda were never legally married, as that would be equivalent to denying his personhood now.

Be interesting to see what Wanda makes of the new Vision. Um, and in fact it'll be interesting to see what Wanda makes of everything.

Even if it had been legal in the first place, The Vision, Wanda and the entire Universe got destroyed and remade atleast once in the meantime, so that should be enough grounds for annullment.

Cassie is 14. All 14yos are insensitive jerks with no impulse control at least some of the time. It's in their contracts.

If she were 24 or even 16 I wouldn't give her a pass, but this behavior is typical at her age. I don't see anything here that normal 14yos don't grow out of.

You don't give 14 year olds a pass, you tell them they're terrible, stupid little shits until they finally take the hint and start learning to act like human beings.

I have to say, it is difficult to judge. When you live in a world where dead or otherwise irrevocably lost loved ones can reappear at any time, what is the etiquette regarding relationships? It is a problem we (unfortunately, probably) don't have to worry about.

Iron Lad does know that Vision is in a relationship with Cassie and that Jonas has his mind. He mentioned that in the oneshot last month. So he's definitely being a dick. He wants Cassie to himself, which is why he brought up the marriage to Wanda.

But to be fair to Cassie she hasn't really cheated on Vision yet. She's been ignoring Jonas and focusing all of her attention on Nathaniel but she never thought she'd see him again and that if she did he'd be a genocidal warlord bent on destroying the Avengers. Hopefully when she makes her choice she isn't a dick about it. And if Iron Lad doesn't stick around, she doesn't go back to Vision as a consolation prize.

I love that Vision was passive aggressive to Iron Lad all issue.

Well he isn't REALLY a dipshit, except when it's about Cassie. He's otherwise fairly lovable and awkward.

And they have a prince of the Skrull and the Kree and the son of one of the most powerful witches in their known universe on their team. Pre-Kang the Conqueror seems pretty standard.

Heheh. I started disliking her when she demanded her Dad's equipment like it was her right and screaming at anyone who stood in her way.

I hated her when she kept making her policeman stepdad out to be a deadbeat and a bad guy, especially since he seemed like a good, if a little strict, man.

So far, she's only proven herself to be a disrespectful brat who needs to be put in her place, and even if someone says she's forgiven because she's only 14, I have to say there's a big difference with 14 year olds here at home and in her world.

While I will definitely agree that Cassie "omg HI NATE" is undoubtedly giving Jonas heart-bruises, I've got to step up and defend her on the Peggy front. Cassie's mother canonically abandoned her when she was little -- I'm not sure when Peggy left, but Cassie was four when Scott was sentenced to prison, and she went to live with her aunt and uncle in the meantime. After that, she lived with Scott until she was...well, about thirteenish, hard to tell with Marvel's compressed time. So when Peggy shows up to sue for custody, she hasn't been involved in Cassie's life for at least nine years, possibly more. Not exactly surprised that Cassie resents it, especially when Peggy has also canonically slapped Cassie across the face in public for talking back to her step-father.

Speaking of, the guy who's always trash-talking Cassie's beloved and recently-dead father to her face? I'm not terribly surprised that Cassie doesn't care for him much either.

(And considering that Nate knew about Cassie and Jonas in the Young Avengers' one-shot that occurred just prior to his showing up to rescue Billy, he's totally being a jerk here. Bad Nate!)

Given that, I can understand better her antagonism, but I can't respect her until she stops acting like a child, screaming to get what she wants all the time and thinking that running away is the solution to everything. And before you say anything, this is how I felt about her character when I myself was 14, so it's not about her age.

I feel a little sadder for Cassie, though. I knew Scott took care of her, but I didn't know he was the only one to do it for how many years. I only got to read the YA trades and they kept saying that he took care of her when he took his turn doing it. Thanks for telling me.
