New Cloak and Dagger Series!
Apr. 10th, 2011 02:25 pmOh, dear. Just as I thought that I'd been finally weaning myself off superhero comics, my old favourite B-lister duo start getting the treatment they deserve: Reported by Bleeding Cool News, it looks as if a Cloak and Dagger new series is about to take off, with Nick Spencer and Emma Rios at the helm!
I've read Nick Spencer's Morning Glories series and I really, really like it. It'll be interesting to see how he handles Cloak and Dagger; hopefully the series won't be too concerned with the inane Spider Island mucky-muck it'll be arising out of. (Though I suppose a Spider-Man cameo or two wouldn't hurt - they've always seem to have had an interesting friendship.)
Does anyone know any examples of Emma Rios' art? Wouldn't mind checking out her work to get a better idea of what the finished product's gonna look like.
For legality, my favourite page from the second run of the 80's Cloak and Dagger comic:

The URL title of that jpeg is horribly relevant. Cloak's expression never fails to TERRIFY THE CRAP OUT OF ME.

Date: 2011-04-10 09:49 pm (UTC)easy money they fight Mister Negative within the first six, especially considering his origin.
(Maybe Phil the Hobgoblin, too.)
less on following up from that one shot, though.

Date: 2011-04-11 01:19 am (UTC)Also, if he's doing Marvel stuff now, does that mean maybe he'll be doing Runaways in the future? Because "Glories" felt a lot like "Runaways" mixed with "The Prisoner".

Plus Hickman is used to drawing all his stuff by himself in painstaking detail and is probably an complete Nazi to workwith (PS: I love You Jonathan I really do. Please never stop writing FF).

Date: 2011-04-11 02:07 pm (UTC)b) An expression or turn of phrase being widespread in popular culture for a long time doesn't at all mean that it isn't offensive and dismissive; and shouldn't be used on a community which tries to be a safe space and promote anti-discrimination.
Mod note
Date: 2011-04-11 03:14 pm (UTC)Words have power, and they are not robbed of that power simply because they've fallen into popular use. You've been asked by someone for whom this word does hold power over to refrain from using it, is your right to throw it around meaninglessly in public really more important than a consideration for who will come across it?

Date: 2011-04-11 02:55 am (UTC)So don't suppose on feelings like that. Besides PLENTY of people have said that Johns and Bendis get too muc control.
Second, Spencer is the new "hot property" right now, so the companies want him to write a ton of stuff and I just don't want to see him overworked. He's on 5 books right now, along with some guest spots. I don't care what you say, that is a lot.
Also, I feel like you got pretty angry with me for merely suggesting that Spencer is on too many books. I don't see why that is so inflamatory.

Date: 2011-04-11 03:50 am (UTC)Perhaps what it all boils down to is that I don't think that having a steady job with what is considered to be "The Man" in our tiny little niche market necessarily means that it will also dilute your creative vision.
It's true, Nick is blowing up right now and I wish him the best of luck with that but that doesnt dimish his product.
Only time will tell what he's really capable of, as is the case with any professional, but so far, he's done some amazing work (Everyone here loved Supergirl's passion for knitting, didn't you?) and I feel that it's unfair to dismiss him just because he behaves like any professional who is relatively new to the industry would, taking any job he can get and bring his best to it.
