You know, reaching this issue makes me realize just how much of Bloodlines I've posted already, totally thought I had a few more issues before I reached the Demon Annual.
Can't say I've ever been a big Garth Ennis fan, this might even be the only comic I own that he worked on, still it was surprisingly amusing.
18 pages of a 56 page story
Etrigan, the original troll.
Tommy Monaghan is your average hired hitman. He's been recently hired to off the the Boss of a Major Mob Family named Robert Heavington Dubelz. Things seem to be going well for the night but he sees something even he shouldn't see.
Meanwhile back at the aliens ship off of Metropolis we see another nod towards the Taker.
Meanwhile, as you should know by now, Tommy's survived and was found in the apartment he was attacked in and rushed to a hospital.
Yep, Tommy's woken and found himself having powers. Telepathy and x-ray vision to be exact.
Jason Blood however has gone to his everyday life while waiting to see where he'll spot the Parasite(s) next and is attending what appeared to be an art exhibition.
Calm and almost bored Jason Blood is pretty damn funny.
Blood switches with Etrigan who gets into an amusing tussle with Glonth but, well, page limit makes it hard to post much from it.
Actually amusing to note that Etrigan doesn't even seem to want to kill Glonth just make fun of him and maybe give him a burn or two, unlike Jason Blood who'd want to stop him.
Seems the reason Etrigan wasn't trying so hard was that Jason and him wanted to gauge Glonth's abilities first, for some reason and they decide to attend the wake for the Mafia Don killed by Glonth (who was going to be killed by Tommy)
BIGGGGG TROLL.
The Mafia family has similarly heard about how Tommy was attacked by the monster and that he was planning to kill their father before Glonth intervened so they decide to go after Tommy.
Tommy has meanwhile gotten out of the hospital after making a quick escape, stealing an officers outfit and goes to Noonan's bar where he usually goers for a drink and we get to see he's gotten used to his powers rather quickly.
Well now lets get to the wake of Mr. Dubelz. Tommy attacks one spot of the wake (he knew the family was going to go after him anyway) and Glonth similarly attacks another part of the area himself Blood and Etrigan are off in the room with Glonth as well.
While Glonth's distracted Tommy gives him a good shot.
Oh and I should probably mention that the two sons of Dubelz are conjoined twins, both hate Tommy very much.

Have to admit, while amusing it does always surprise me that Hitman caught on so well after the event unlike the other New Bloods. The issue actually made me really like Etrigan though. Having a rhyming demon make fun of folks while killing them is rather amusing.

Date: 2011-04-12 04:13 am (UTC)Dammit Ennis, knock it off, I may start liking you if you keep this up.

Because I remember he was better at those rhymes, though in this, they seem half-assed.
Still, pretty cool event, considering.

Date: 2011-04-12 02:40 pm (UTC)But the words... I'd give it if he were hurried but it doesn't feel as poetic as it should.
Or maybe I've been reading too much Gaiman-written Etrigan.

Date: 2011-04-12 01:24 pm (UTC)These are pretty good rhymes, by Etrigan standards. Most writers just completely phone it in. Ennis at least makes a fair stab. My first exposure to him was in Swamp Thing, in which as I recall he speaks entirely in sonnets of exquisite beauty, but that's a pretty high standard to live up to.

Date: 2011-04-13 07:42 pm (UTC)I suppose after 14 centuries one has seen almost everything. Didn't he offhandedly break a wine bottle and put the alien parasite's eye out with it before turning into Etrigan?
