Justice League Generation Lost 23: Ante, Upped

Greetings, JLI/JLE fans! I bring you three pages from the just released JLGL 23.

You may recall last issue, Jaime revealed the ultimate object of Max's plan was to kill Wonder Woman. So Bat!Bruce and the gang tracked Nu!Diana down, only to be set upon by Max's OMAC army.

This ish: the OMACs open a teleportation portal which carries Nu!Di and the gang, minus Atom, Peej and Bats, to what appears to be Los Angeles. Max and Ivo are in a...flying rook? craft above, and they launch something toward the gang.











On another note, I must say Nu!Diana looks gorgeous in this issue.

The sad thing in this whole thing is that I was more engaged in WW in these past two issues than I ever was in the Odyssey storyline in her own book.
And I really don't know what to think about that. :/

did you read the latest issue of WW? it was a VERY good, Big step in the right direction!

I actually dropped it because it really wasn't doing anything for me. I did, however, just pick up a bunch of old Greg Rucka issues. So :)

Did you make it past the JMS issues? The new author is *much* better, in the sense stuff actually happens. And the last one in particular, with Dr. Psycho (the real Psycho), is worth picking up.

I did get to the first two Hester issues and I just gave up. It wasn't that much better.

that is because there was still alot of JMS in it (hester is still following his story line) but this last issue, hester's writing REALLY shines through. really its worth a read. we will stop bugging you if you give it a shot :D

IDK. I actually hemmed and hawed a lot over giving it up because it just wasn't any good for me. I felt like it was not engaging, it was confusing, there was little dynamic, Diana felt cardboard-ish, she's got no actually personality other than "I wave my arms around and rage a lot and make rage-y faces." The dialogue wasn't even enjoyable -- it was very static to the point of being stagnant. And that is disappointing, I think WW deserves better. JMS didn't even care -- he left after what, four and a half issues? He didn't even make it to 12. It's like gave her some pants, patted himself on the back and called it a day. Mission accomplished? It just reeks of a writer who doesn't even give a rat's ass about the character except for a sweet new costume. He couldn't even see the reboot all the way through. Why?

When I read the Hiketeia, I loved it. I cried when reading Rucka's Mission's End because Wonder Woman is such a people's hero and he really emphasized that. This character that JMS and Hester are writing doesn't even resemble that one.

no i get that, i totally do. its how i felt. Its not near rucka's stuff but its so much better.

i posted this when it came, this isn't even the BEST part of the story, it comes after it. but this really shows a side of her that has not been seen in her. the compassion of Diana, and the last three-four pages were PURE Diana. Again, not Rucka, but it seems on the way there.

I don't know about anyone else but as I was reading this, it felt/read as good ole orginial Diana there with a change of clothes instead of NuDiana.

Maybe it's just me.

That seems to be how they're handling Diana in other books, like the JLA Annual and JLA/The 99. Old powers and attitude, new cloths.

Oh, the Aquaman thing is purely for Flashpoint, I can say with 99.9% certainty --they used the logos for those versions of the characters for that teaser, and Johns probably has no interest in hell in splitting up Arthur and Mera.

Okay, fair enough--I've heard enough people say that with absolute certainty that I wasn't sure. Seriously--I get that some people aren't fans of the Odyssey stuff, but DC isn't THAT dumb to keep the whole Wonder Woman thing from Flashpoint around when they just revamped the character in a dramatic fashion.

This artist does have a much better handle on Diana than the current Wondy artist (whose faces I have never liked - way too angular/plastic-looky). He should be given a more regular Wondy gig in future, methinks.

The art is nice, but the perspective on OMAC-prime is all kinds of confusing. I can't tell his actual size from the shots. At first he appears to be twenty feet tall, then ten and then more like six. I don't know his actual size from these pages.

True dat, but this is Max, the guy whose superpower is temporarily overriding free will, the guy who once made a puppet of Superman. Granted, he's not lookin' too hot right now given how he's been abusing his powers on a global scale, but no doubt he's arrogant enough to think he can handle OMAC-prime one on one.

O-Prime being an artificial intelligence, I'm not sure his powers would work on him. (He's never affected Skeets (that I know of), for example.)

O-Prime being an AI with OMAC and Amazo parts grafted on would, assuming Max and Ivo aren't complete morons, should mean they've got control mechanisms in place that don't depend on Max's powers (beyond the OMAC virus apparently currently being keyed to them). But it's totally possible that's not going to work out for them, either. (Almost nothing else has this entire series.)
