Batgirl #20 - another piece of the puzzle

One page from Batgirl #20 here. Much to love about this ish: confident Steph, supportive Babs, Dinah cameo, a look at Firewall's workings, a super sekrit villain stopping plan that works, nice art. But none of that (except the nice art) is what I bring you here.

GCPD Det. Nick Gage, Designated Love Interest, has been an enigma wrapped in a side of beefcake since his introduction in issue 1. Here we get another piece of the puzzle.





That's the figure we keep seeing on Slipstream's armor.

I know Steph finds him kinda hot, but does he really count as a "love interest" ATM? Because they really haven't done anything with him and Steph--if anything, he was almost Babs' possible love interest until she shut that shit down.

I didn't say who he was the Designated Love Interest for. Officially he's for Barbara to date; unofficially he's for Steph to drool over. But nobody, up to and including Cmsr. Jim, seems terribly interested in him for his detecting skills. :D

Well, he'd be... the closest thing Steph has to a Love Interest, currently. Barbara doesn't seem really interested.

Not that it's anything that can go anywhere, given the circumstances. Besides, Steph and Tim are, by now, pretty much locked in the same Couple pattern that Bruce & Selina and Dick & Barbara are. No matter how much of a jerk one can be to the other, no matter how far other things with an alternative Love Interest go, be it engagement with an orange skinned big boobed alien, or even children with someone else. None of the parties involved ever fully get over that one person. Hell, we've already seen it with Tim that he's not over Steph (like, every time he runs into her since their last break-up). Even with Detective McHandsome... Steph is attracted to broody dark haired detectives who send her mixed signals.

If Sin decides to throw on a costume and has an immediate conflict with Damian, they'll be forever locked in that pattern, especially if she makes him look like a chump in that first confrontation the way Babs and Steph did to Dick and Tim, respectively. :)

If Jason's time as Robin had coincided with Cass's time as Batgirl, they'd be like this. I suppose that's why Jason/Cass has become such a popular Fanon Ship. :)

I don't really count him as love interest. I can see Steph refering to him as Det. McHotty (damn Grey's Anatomy..and no i don't like the show..but my mom watched it a lot..) Besides..eh I really don't want to see him as a love interest anyway. Just keep him as the detective who helps them and who they occasionally drool over. I'm a sucker for a good love story and have my ships, eh this isn't one of them.

I like him as an ambiguous figure of hotness for Steph. If anything, the fact that he is/was more Bab's designated love interest makes me like it more.

That Talia/Jason affair made me realise I have a thing for younger heroes makin' it with their mentors' love interests.

I think it's going to be perpetual UST for them, ad infinitum. And yeah, I think it's mutual: he has a tiny little bit of a crush on Steph's B-Girl. Hell, who wouldn't? I sure do.

In any case, I think it's cute. On both their parts. =D
