Spearheaded by Adam Glass, writer/producer on Supernatural, this year's Justice League of America 80 Page Giant is the story of 18 superheroes being transported to Hell as depicted in Dante's Inferno.

Green Arrow and Ragman find themselves in the Fifth Circle (Anger), where the magic of the environment makes them very, er, angry with each other.

Superman and Red Tornado appear in the First Circle (Limbo).

And Fire and Lobo find themselves in the Fourth Circle (Greed). (And yes, they do mention the detail that the latter is supposed to have been banned from Hell.)

I don't even think Superman's an atheist, I just think he doesn't talk about his faith out of respect for others.

Also, HE USED TO HANG WITH ZAURIEL.

aye, and wrestled angels WITH Zauriel.
And, er, didn't he meet Diana's pantheon once or twice?

Now, if Mr. Terrific was down in here, I could see that...

Even Batman has commented on hard it is to be an aetheist, and how those people who actually seem to be empowered by gods; Diana, Donna, Captain Marvel, are amongst the best and brightest people he knows.

Yeah, but it's interesting, would meeting a being who said he was an agent of an omnipotent entity convince you.

As Douglas Adams put it when discussing the Babel Fish;

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing".

To be honest, if I lived in an Universe where a being appeared with extraordinary powers; I would take that as a pretty big point in favor of godness from its part.

In the DC Universe though, with gods on the left, gods on the right and cannibalizing from PG's latest catchphrase 'gods out the wazoo'. I wouldn't buy it.

And I still don't see either why everyone just buys the Spectre as what he says he is too. He's powerful yes, but that should not be an indicator of anything when there are more characters at his power level.

I think with the Spectre it would his... for want of a better term, "presence". You might doubt his credentials if you'd never met him, but the moment he appears on the scene, and particularly if he looked you in the eye, you would just KNOW that this was an agent of an Old Testament Almighty who did not take crap from ANYONE. You might never be able to articulate WHY you are so sure of this, but from then on it would be right up there as a fundamental fact in your head.
