Adventure Comics 525, and an alt cover for New Mutants 25

My LCS didn't have this in stock, so a couple of pages, courtesy of CBR from their preview as Phil Jimenez.

As it's a new comic this week, I'll stick to the two page rule, it seems only fair,

But since covers don't count... That remains an awesome outfit for Dragonwing...



Also note in the bottom left box is the Legion's resident medic Dr Gym'll (He makes Bones McCoy look like little Miss Mary Sunshine, but he's a great character) with Variable Lad.


It appears that Chemical Kid has been ambushed by Alchemical Girl, who is also from his homeworld and who has the same powers as he does, which should be impossible. His Dad appears involved somehow... I include this page largely for the fabulous hairstyle Alchemical Girl is sporting...



Oh, and Glorith kicking ass.

And this page I had to include for actually managing to out Coruscant Coruscant at the Metropolis Spaceport!

X-23, Psylocke Selene! And Empath in a Hellions outfit? I'm not sure who that is behind Sunspot, but I think it's the soldier who was running the military base in Limbo from their last arc (an underappreciated story IMHO, which I should post some from)

I've heard that that was supposed to be Selene on that cover, not Psylocke. Which would make sense since that half of the cover seems to be enemies of the New Mutants (Emma, the Demon Bear, Legion, one of the Hellions)

So that is probably General Ulysses.

Selene would have been my next guess, but seeing as how they made such a big deal of her demise in Necrosha, I wasn't sure... Thanks

The Demon Bear and Ulysses are dead too.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Djurdjevic covers are pretty but they don't always mean anything. Like that X-men poster a few months ago that had Shatterstar, Arcade, powered Blob, Mr. Sinister, and Bishop. There weren't any plans to bring those characters back to the main X-Books, they were just there to fill space.

Which is why I doubt Rahne will be leaving X-Factor to join the New Mutants anytime soon.

Well at least Kitty and Illyana are going to interact in Gillen's Uncanny during Fear Itself.

And that New Mutants 25 preview shows Kitty hanging out with the New Mutants for a bit, so she might say "Hi" to Doug there.

That's something at least.

I think all of the Hellions are dead (except Firestar and Warpath I guess). Tarot for some reason showed up as a zombie during Necrosha.

Empath, Warpath and Magma are the only Hellions left AFAIK

Firestar was never a Hellion, she was a "special student" of Emma's and never wore the uniform. Magma did when she changed schools.

Tarot might be another special case. She DID die at Fitzroy's hands but came back through means that were never made clear, possibly in a different body, leaving her original body to be "Necrosha'd"

At one point I think all of the New Mutants were Hellions. After they were killed by the Beyonder right?

First thing I saw in that spaceport: One giant golden phallus sticking out of the ground. Dont know if thats just me, but if it is, maybe I should go get checked out.

Second, I really like the way sunspot looks on that cover, but Emma's face looks a little... off. I cant pinpoint it, but it seems just a little strange.

And why is Selene's hair purple? Also on a side note, Legion minus the huge flat-top!

May I say that that icon never fails to freak me out. I have no idea who it is, or what they're doing, but it's... disturbing.

Who it is is Tyra Banks. What the original context is, I don't know, since I watch neither her show nor America's Next Top Model.

I rather suspect it's a lot less freaky looking in its original context, absent the weird animation, though...

I think the bottom of Emma's nose is positioned a bit high for an adult face. Also, I don't think her nostrils should be that prominent from this angle. And her chin seems a bit long.

On a happier note, Illyana's nose is pupating nicely and the circle of life will be complete once more.

Whatever happened to Empath after that bizarre Sisterhood thing? As the last remaining Hellion, Emma should really try to fix him. He'd make an interesting addition to the X-Men.

It's probably due to the fact that she has no eyebrows, but I always kind of think of Dragonwing as a Drag Queen and/or Transgendered.

I think "alien" or "fashion statement" is more likely, as I'm not aware of any correlation between eyebrows and gender identity. (Though that shouldn't preclude Dragonwing being trangender either of course, or in the case of "alien", a non-human gender altogether)

Given the case of Shvaughn Erin, those undergoing 31st gender reassignment would be completely indistinguishable from anyone else of whichever outward gender one selects.

Of course, after the Shvaugn Erin, doubtless well-intentioned but actually rather unfortunate (to say the least) issues, I hope that the next attempt at showing transgenderism in the Legion is handled with due consideration and care and I could imagine Phil actually having a decent go at it, perhaps someone making a casual reference, since one would hope such things were not a big deal a thousand years from now.

If Doctor Who can make such references in a prime time family show in 2005 and no one bats an eye, then so can comics darnit,

I'm not aware of any correlation between eyebrows and gender identity. There isn't any, but the character always sort of seemed trans to me. When I examined my preconceptions about her more closely, the lack of eyebrows was the one thing that stuck with me, even against her many other unusual features.

Woah, the art on that last one is amazing! It's the first time Emma actually looks like an actual human being who could actually exist to me, instead of a barbie doll.

Marko Djurdjevic. (Check the tags, the thorough posters thankfully put the creators in as well.) His style is very distinctive.
