Date: 2011-04-21 08:51 am (UTC)Am I the only one going, "WTF?" at that last panel?
Is it suppose to be humorous? Snide? What? All I can think is, "Wow, you're a really shitty person for saying that."
Though, given I haven't really read the comic beyond the first couple of trades, that may be the point of her character?

Date: 2011-04-21 11:03 am (UTC)There's actually one more page after this that's silent and sets up a really intense emotional moment. Kate's "gag" panel disrupting the flow temporarily actually makes it all the more impactful (impactive?).

Date: 2011-04-21 08:26 pm (UTC)I actually give Kirkman credit for going where few comic writers tread, though I'll take it away if this causes their relationship deteriorates because of this.
That being said I kinda wanted to see Invincibaby.
Why this bothers me
Date: 2011-04-22 12:16 am (UTC)Tried a couple times after, told the phone was no longer in service. That bothered me because he had the number to the house, figured he'd have, idk at least called, let us know that maybe he had moved, changed his number, something. I felt guilty. Like maybe I wasn't being a good enough son. It was heart breaking.
Last year, I learned that my dad, never wanted kids. Never wanted to be in my life. The moment he no longer had to pay child support, that was it. When I thought about it, that's when it hit me, we haven't talked since he no longer had to pay it. I acted indifferent, but honestly, it fuckin hurts.
When I think of him now, I want to tell him "Fuck. You. Good riddance you jerk. When I have children of my own, I guarantee, I will be a 1,000 times better than you. I got through most of my life without you, I'll continue to make it, I'll get through college. I'll become a writer. I'll get married to my dream girl. I'll do it all. Without you."
The point I'm making? Aside from my own dad, how about I use Maury as an example. Real or fake, we see a situation of a woman with a child or children and the asshole claiming the kid isn't their's. When the results say "You Are NOT The Father" you see this guys fuckin breakdancing and throwing a celebration on stage. Rarely do you see a guy who is actually heartbroken that he isn't the father. Same case with those who are the father. What do you initially see? You see a guy who looks defeated. You can tell, they didn't want to be a father.
I had a former friend who thought that he was special. Low sperm count, so he thought he couldn't have kids. Wrong. You got men in this world..making kids left and right. Leave the women to deal with it alone. They want no part in the child's life. They think they're so special, like hey, I can have sex with as many women as I want, no protection, nothing. I prefer it raw, nothing's going to happen. Guess what? She's pregnant now. What do they do? Fuckin high tail it. They look for any excuse to not claim the child, going out of their way to make the woman look bad. They move on with their life, leaving the women to struggle and deal. If they do grow a heart, it's most likely too late, because a real man stepped up. To love that child. To give the child the guidance he or she needs. Or hell, maybe just like with my own mom, the mother did it all alone and the children turned out just damn fine and don't need the asshole.
You got assholes, who want nothing to do with a child and will abandone them. Then you have those with honor. Men who will not run away. Who will step the fuck up. Even if he and the mom aren't together, they look out for the children. They make sure they're children have as best a life as possible, making sure they have values, goals, the means to accomplish their dream and not end up on a negative path.
When it comes to abortion, honestly, I don't see a point in debate or making a law, because ultimately, it's a matter of choice, especially if one considers the circumstances under which a woman concieved. It's a matter of choice, I may disagree or agree with a choice, but it's a choice nonetheless.
Atom Eve is just now telling Mark that she had his child. She could've told him before. He could've stepped up and maybe be a great father. Or who knows, maybe consider adoption. Or even if they did ultimately still go with abortion, she should've fuckin told him before.
I understand the story. I understand Eve being scared. I understand if Kirkman wanted to explore a different route, especially if handled seriously and not with a wave of a hand or with ill timed jokes, but I don't fuckin like it and honestly, made Eve lose some cool points with me in that book.
It just...makes me hot.

Date: 2011-04-22 03:11 pm (UTC)Unless it's more guilt over killing an offspring of the guy, then I guess it's a different sort of guilt. Although honestly I always thought guilt over 'loss of progeny' is kinda creepy. Almost like if the baby wasn't his, then it'll be okay.
