Have you read Soul of the Hunter? It came out shortly before this storyline. It's the official Kraven sequel, reuniting DeMatteis and Zeck, whose art is even better at that point. In that one, he directly tackles the lingering trauma Peter had suffered, and forces him to confront and even try to forgive Kraven, who's stuck between planes of existence for his suicide. Considering that Peter seemed to find peace at the end of that, it strikes me now as strange and perhaps repetitive that he's going through a similar experience here. But I suppose it makes sense, considering that trauma is still trauma, and that Peter's parents are about to return at this point.
