Now, was this written before or after "Death: The High Cost of Living", where it was kinda made a point that Death's super secret awesome sigil of power was just a symbol? Someone steals it from her and she just.....buys another one.

as much as possible, the series made no sense to me and I tried to break it up enough to make sense and post only the important parts. I cut out most of the scenes with Plath's mooks who she hired for some reason, she just had to have them, and believe me when I you're not missing anything other then people saying fuck, a lot. The beginning with Billy as well comes out of nowhere what was that thing? There were also the scenes with the cult yes there was a cult! What do they do? nothing! Death does not show up in anyway either which I would have liked just to hear her view on the events that transpired but we just get ...this. So yeah I wish I could show more but I wanted to focus on the important parts which is the Eve versus Plath story.

Even without her introduction, it would have been obvious that Kiernan is the quintessential Promoted Fangirl, and as per usual, I tend to look at such people with a mixture of genuine sympathy, occasional frustration at blown opportunities, and a leetle tinge of envy. Arguably, she's moved beyond this, as her Wikipedia article notes that Gaiman has mentioned her on his blog (she wrote the novelization of his Beowulf script) and has written a cover blurb for at least one of her books, so he seems to approve of her stuff generally, plus she's won a bunch of awards.

Still, though, yeah, this is pretty bad.

yeaaah, not my thing, but the art is nice (if a bit too McKeany-y). Who is the artist?
And about that last page: small white text on a black background is just wrong. Hard to read, tough to print, gives headaches (if not migraines) - I don't have too many absolute rules about design but this is one. And it's amazing how many comic-books text pages do it.

I'm pretty sure I read this at one point, but like others have mentioned probably wouldn't remember it without some prompting.

It's very much one of the dark books that Vertigo and Dark Horse put out a lot of in the 90's and early 00's, many of which were basically copies of Silent Hill or popular horror comics or movies of the period (a lot were also clearly focused on being 'cinematic' with the creators hoping to get movie deals). Many of them were okay, but few stand out as being anything special.

So, Kiernan's style of writing is not your cup of tea. I have read the excerpts posted, and they don't seem all that horrific in the way implied by OP. To each their own. The artwork is dark and quirky, and goes along with the writing.

I should mention read some of my comment on what I had to cut, I only posted the most coherent stuff from the book. Otherwise I would be over the page limit and well to tell you the truth I just don't like any of these characters. They feel like a waste of good paper that could be used for Death and Mary Marvel talking about their favorite Disney Movies...okay bad example. Still there very flat characters in a universe full of very Nuanced characters. This may have to do with being a 4 issue mini but still you can do a lot if you try.

Judging from the posts, the comic feels like one giant maudlin send-off for the girlfriend. I loved the art and the really enjoyed certain scenes but beyond that meh. Was it as horrible as you made it sound?...Eh maybe lol

Oh man, it's everything that was horrible about bad Goth art and writing in those days. I can't believe I read most of what you posted. Reminds me of why I used to fucking hate goths so much. Need brain bleach!
