That was ignored for most of her purple-suit series, until the last creative team brought Maggie back. Then, at the end, it was revealed that she was just a figment of Selina's imagination, but that retcon was itself retconned out by Brubaker a year later. Needless to say, Selina's history is a bit of a mess, which is why I find this complete timeline of Catwoman's origin from comics canon all the more impressive.
