With it being the strip's 5th Anniversary...

For a while, there was a recurring joke...

Then, in the comic, we had this scene...

So, it would seem that Miller reads Casstoons. Or...

Steph is slightly metahuman, her superpowers being cracking wise and accidentally exploding people. Or...

EspanolBot is secretly been a 4th Wall breaking Barbara Gordon all this time, and that occasional griping about things Babs has done has just been to throw us off the scent.

Scans from Bab's, um, I mean EspanolBot's DA page, here... http://espanolbot.deviantart.com/

And from Bruce Wayne, The Road Home: Batgirl.

Any other shout-outs that we've seen?

I'm not sure if I've said this before, but

EspanolBot should try and become a prof. writer for DC. It would so work, and I would buy every comic

If they are reading casstoons, I definitely want to hear Ollie use that line in a comic ;)

Second the EspanolBot-as-prof-writer nomination. Anyway, DC needs a comic like Deadpool or Sensational She-Hulk so they don't have to take themselves so damn seriously all the time.

"Anyway, DC needs a comic like Deadpool or Sensational She-Hulk so they don't have to take themselves so damn seriously all the time."

And I've always said that is EXACTLY the role the Marvel Family could have filled in DC all this time (in the Golden Age, there was quite a bit of knowing nods to the readers in Captain Marvel comics) instead of Didio trying to remake them as generically grim, dark 90s-era "heroes". I mean really, Tawky Tawny, used to break the 4th wall quite often (why else have a talking tiger in a bowtie nobody even blinks about).

It would be interesting to know if Miller reads Casstoons since going by the first year plus of the Steph Brown Batgirl, outside of the first issue, you would never know there even existed EVER a character called Cassandra Cain (and since FabNic, Gail Simone, and soon Scott Snyder -in GofG- have referenced Cass, I can no longer put all the blame on Editorial for the never mentioning her thing, especially in a book that features both her former BFF and former guardian/parental figure).

Yeah, I'm still bitter about it (sorry) but it boggles the mind that almost two years into this series and they still can't name-drop (at the very least) the former Batgirl?

YES. I fully agree with the Marvel family rec. I love them, yet they never seem to fit into the DCU properly for long, so I keep saying to myself that they need to find a unique niche...that would really work well.

I've completely given up on complaining about the entire Batgirl fiasco. I'm just kind of hoping the book will stay good and keep up steam long enough to build a lot of fan recognition, and then get a tasteful overhaul that fixes up Cass. It's easy to think "omg this is all a disaster" when you're reading it month to month, but a lot of old characters and titles went for years and years before a writer struck gold with them and put them together in a way that works.

Well, there was the Ambush Bug mini. And his appearances in Doom Patrol.

Third issue, I think that it was, she accidentally set a bum on fire by kicking him into a burning oil drum. Then in the one with Damian, there was a guy who had petrol for blood and was burning stuff, but Steph's attempt to stop Damian accidentally burning himself, Dick and Steph to death resulted in her freezing him in a block of ice.

I know that Gail Simone has read some of 'em. :) Also the guy who writes Wonderella, though I think that he thought that the injokes were... a little too injokey.

Ah! But I wouldn't be surprised, nowadays the comic book circles do exchange whatever funny stuff or critic of the moment they'd found online.

Now I want Casstoons Cassie to appear in the Gates of Gotham! :P
