Unfortunately for Rayhan Mazin. Power girl with assistance with batman saves the plane and his actions get misunderstood.

He use his weather abilities to escape. Which get the attention of power girl and batman of the break out.

He strikes lighting at them. Making power girl let go of the choke hold on him.

If they want a fight. Well nothing going to stop me from seeing my father.

Personally I think cameos are a good tool for making a character seem more tied in to the wider world. As long as the story's still about them primarily.

I totally agree. I absolutely love it when comics give me the feeling that there's a whole worldwide and nation-wide tradition and community of superheroes out there, and have been there for years. Stories set in Metropolis usually do a good job of this, and I love it when similar intersections happen in other places.

It's funny because America...no, no, it's not.

I always look at the Power Girl posts here as a reminder why I'm trying to whittle my comic list down to nothing, and these posts never disappoint me.

Karen, what happened to you? Oracle...with enough time, I've come to accept that Oracle is never going to be cool, but you...you had so much potential. You're blond! You have the mind of a Silver Age Kryptonian brain. You have a software company in Manhattan. You have your own mecha-building, Japanese fanboy waiting in the wings. Where did you go wrong? Was it drugs? Was it hanging out with those JLI dogooders? I can't even look at you any more with seeing more that's missing than is actually there. Maybe one day, when you get your live together, stop sponging off your billionaire boyfriend, we can hang out, but not now. Just...not now.

Because I was hoping for Better Off Ted or (retroctively) Breaking In, and instead I got...Matt Fraction's Iron Man starring Captain Hero as Power Girl.

What? Her company is doing lots right now- she just bought a 24-hour TV station this issue. The Feds are nervous enough about her company's pure science advances that they have someone assigned to her to make sure everything's safe.

Batman's giving her some advice on how to handle image of such a company (and *only* the image side, not the business end) but she's owning this thing. Starrware is doing great and then some.

Ahh, Superhero dickery.

I'm going to laugh when this guy becomes a villain and starts smearing racists acrossed the ground.

Sadly I can see that kind of reaction to an Arab American with superpowers happening. Does this character have a name? Does it mention his name during the story?

It's not really Superhero dickery- well, not purposefully. It's mostly Fed dickery with PG and Batman stepping in when it *looks* like he's getting out of hand but really isn't.

Rayhan's story is a sad one :(

Did he try and explain to them the situation? Or didn't they give him the opportunity? Or did he let his internal monologue do all the walking?

I totally agree with you, though. Batman, who should have a grasp on body language and almost a supernatural "feel" of a person, and PG with her super hearing, should have both together been able to deduce that this guy was getting the wrong end of the stick.

I hope this turns out ok for him, though. I hate stereotypes ruining a decent character, even when he's not one and it's forced upon him.

Did he try and explain to them the situation?

It says in his monologue that his entire plan was to explain the situation afterwards so yeah I mean he had to have either tried to explain and been ignored or simply denied any opportunity to do so.

And I mean after he busts out of his cell he's explicitly standing there trying to clearly and nonviolently talk about the situation right before Powergirl ganks him.

I mean god knows it's "realistic" enough in that plenty of shit like this happens in real life to people trying to explain straightforward things to jumped-up authority figures but this is pretty much exactly the kind of reality I would occasionally like to escape by reading the fantastical tales of awesome heroes.

He tried. Repeatedly. I'm not sure if he explained to PG or Batman (who were the ones who brought the plane in safely - or at least the ones who got all of the credit), but he explained to the feds fairly regularly over the intervening six months. They refused to believe him. (Because he's a Quraci-born meta, who majored in chemical engineering. Therefore, he must be up to no good.)

The fact he's not trying to actually hurt anyone (ie. going on a rampage, trying to attack people openly) should clue Batman and PG in to the idea that he's not as villainous as he's being made out to be.

Also the fact their flying in fists-a-pumping doesn't help their case in my eyes, though. Makes them look incompetent.

of course they rescued the plane that was going down that he tried to save. you'd think they might question Bats and Powergirl about the plane and if it seemed like a supervillain attack that nearly brought it down.

I hope this ends without this guy becoming a full time misunderstood supervillain.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'd rather he didn't. I'd rather he persevere and wind up making the others feel like crap when they learn/figure out the truth.

Sort of like that episode of Justice League Unlimited where Captain Marvel threw it back in their faces, Superman's in particular.

overall, I was disappointed by this issue mostly because it's trying to hard.

When Powergirl first started it featured a storyline and cast that seemed like it could go indefinately. Overall we werebeing introduced to things. Now we're being told about them, now they're rapid firing changing things to make her and Starrware matter and be permanent.

And in comics the more effort you put in to make something permanent the more likely it is that the next guy either destroys it or retcons it out.

As a Blue Marvel fan I'd argue this is worse given Mazin had to hide this from the world all this time, not using it fearing this exact type of thing would occur. And he's trying to see his father and no one's listening to him. JFK at least listened to Adam.
