huh? So Bruce and Martha died in this version? and Thomas became Batman? intwesting...

In the world of Flashpoint, Bruce and Martha got killed, not Thomas. Thomas became Batman, but he's also trying to control crime via numbers of Wayne Casinos. Obviously, he has a much different perspective on crime than regular Bruce-Batman, which kind of makes sense, given Bruce's Batman and the no-killing rule is almost childishly naive and romanticised, in a way.

...I don't buy that.

Bruce trained since childhood to become good at what he does. Thomas must have been at least in his thirties when his family got killed, and had no military training whatsoever. Meaning he'd need to start training from scratch, for at least 10-15 years (probably more, it took Bruce over 10 years but kids are biologically predisposed to learning).

Admittedly breaking the no-kill rule would definitely give him a big advantage, but I don't see how a 50-year-old guy could wrestle Killer Croc.

Fair point, but I suppose that's the fun of a machete in the head. Doesn't take much finesse other than a good aim.

It *is* the sort of thing Azzarello excels at as a writer, frankly. 100 Bullets is brilliant.

Well, Johns was the one who came up with the concept, but once Johns brought Azzarello in and told him about that Batman costume, he said something along the lines of, "Now why the FUCK don't you let me write that?" :D

But beware good pitches!
They don't necessary end up making good plot.
For example, Daniel Way at Marvel does great initial pitches (Ghost Rider searching for "pieces" of Satan, Wolverine remembers his past..) and ends up killing the plot all by himself! (Johnny Blaze was an angel all along, Wolverine isn't a mutant but a Lupine... -sigh-)

Do Azzarello and Risso really not like Killer Croc or something? The poor guy seems to get beaten up in every single Batman story they do..

Well, he wasn't in the Wednesday Comics strip, but I get ya--I think Azz and the people he has draw just love drawing freakish lizard-people. Can't say I blame 'em.

Yeah, I was thinking more of Broken City, which was bookended with Croc getting the crap beaten out of him.

Yep--and while it wasn't Risso drawing, he also appeared in the Joker graphic novel as Joker's big muscle thug.

I still like this, like I do many temporary and hopefully with-no-ramifications alternate storylines.

Hmm...maybe it's the fact that he's also running a casino is running in my head, but does Thomas here look like Lincoln Red Crow from Scalped to anyone else?
