When all else fails, when faith is human and meta human is no more, they gather.

Forget Blackest Night.
Forget War of Kings.

The Pet Avengers are HERE, preview courtesy of IGN.

Que the A-Team music, que the Superfriends music, que the fanfare from Aaron Coplan's "Fanfare For the Common Man".

Heroes don't always walk on two feet. But they stand tall, and stand together.

SCANBLOCKED, dammit! I was going to post this today! After looking at the full preview last week, I'm discouraged to see the Inhumans again being depicted as treating Lockjaw with a sense of offhand dismissal (which is counter to, like, four decades of other continuity), but the whole setup? With the Infinity Gems? This looks to be hilarious.

Rocket Raccoon is no one's pet.

He's actually a nurse.

Lockjaw isn't actually a dog, but he does have a mustache.

I seem to recall an issue of The Thing, where it was revealed Lockjaw was just a normal Inhuman (whatever that is) mutated by the mist and NOT an actual dog. Did this change at some point ?

Someone (Bryne, maybe) retconned it so that that was a joke Quicksilver was playing on Ben Grimm. Personally, I always liked the idea, since we don't see any other inhuman pets/animals/anything really. I mean, what the heck is up with lockjaw then? Was Black Bold bored one day, decided to chuck a dog in the mists?

Yeah , That was my thinking , I wonder what Inhuman cats are like ???

It was Peter David who undid the "Lockjaw is really a dog-like Inhuman" reveal, pointing out that given the way he had been treated by the Inhumans all this time (as, essentially, an animal) revealing he had actually been a fully sentient being all along was just as weird.

" While Quicksilver, aghast at the thought of having a flatscan, human daughter, initially sought to expose her to the Inhumans' mutagenic Terrigen Mists, he was talked out of this by Gorgon and Karnak, impersonating Lockjaw to make their point. " - so, yeah, turns out that was all teh lies.

At last Marvel has come up with a Big Event Book just for ME!

I recognize all of them except Hairball. Ummm... Carol Danvers' cat? Or am I getting it mixed up with Power Girl's Cat? Help a DC girl out here, gang.

Hairball is Niels, the pet of Speedball, a member of the New Warriors.

Ahhh, a title which Wikipedia tells me was just starting up at the very moment I was getting out of the Marvel universe, so no wonder I didn't recognize Hairball.

You even have to ask?

Thor is only empowered by Odin, Kermit was empowered by Jim Henson, whose levels of cosmic awesomeness leave Odin weeping in shame.

I am happy to see Frog Thor being used again, although I am forced to eye-roll just a little bit at the means by which he procured his powers. A sliver of Uru metal chipped from the head of Mjolnir? Come ON, people! Mjolnir is one of the most thoroughly unbreakable things around. This is a weapon that can SMASH THROUGH BUILDINGS and deal knock-out blows to Frost Giants without shattering, and it chipped when the goat dropped it on the concrete? I say thee nay. Balderdash, say I. A far better way would have been for it to be a splinter from the hammer's wooden handle - that's at least plausible, if unlikely, and ties in with Mjolnir's 'wooden staff thumped on the ground' incarnation.
Still - Frog Thor! And Lockheed! Yaaaay! Just those two would be enough. If I see this in a trade, i just might purchase it.

Chipped by a mystically empowered Asgardian goat known for the sharpness of it's hooves. I'd have prefered the handle too, but such is life.

And the metal is powerful stuff. There was a one time Thor had to recast the hammer and used a New York metalworks to do it, and a few years later a metalworker who had picked up a fragment of uru metal and kept in in a keyring, was pushed into a vat of molten steel for reasons I can't recall, and the magic and the metal combined to to turn him into a (very pissed off) being of molten metal.

Mmmmmmm, I supPOSE that makes sense. If that were the case, though, I'd expect Thor to get extremely nervous whenever his goats are that near to his beloved hammer. What happens if the goats are happy to see him after a long absence:

"Hola, Toothgnasher! Hola, Toothgrinder! Yes, yes, heh heh, I art pleased to see you too... Eh, now, Toothgrinder... that be enough now... down, boy... no, DOWN boy... AUUUUGGHHH! Look what thou hast... thine stupid hoof again! Flailing it all around like that, look what thou hast done! Thou hast chipped the finish! I spend two hours a day polishing mighty Mjolnir so that it might look its best, and now look! And AAAAGGHH, LOOK AT THIS! There be a dirty great SCRATCH running right across the face of it! 'If he be worthy' art bisected in twain by thine great dirty hoof! Oh, stop thou bleating that way, thou art... Oh, no, stop, I did not mean... Yes, yes, all right, 'twas not intentional... 'twas an accident, yes... yes, the Thunder God art sorry... dry thine eyes... yes, yes, the Thunder God still loveth his faithful goats... Hush, now, be still, thou art forgiven... *sigh* Next time I venture into thine stables, though, I art leaving mighty Mjolnir on the bedside table."

Poor Throg guy had almost every bad break going no?

And it's not bad enough he lost all he did, but the brown frog brother has to deal with turning into a green frog to become a superhero?

That's brown amphibian-ism!
