Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #158 and #159

So to recap:

1. Spider-Man is caught in the middle of the Ultimates' battle against the Avengers and is shot by the Punisher, a bullet meant for Captain America. So far this is literally the only thing to connect the two titles. Personally, I think it would have been a lot better to have Spidey shot in a way that only involves his title, but hey...more sales. So Peter is severely wounded, and separated from the Ultimates and has to fend for himself. He ends up webbing up his wound but he's on his last legs.

2. The Green Goblin is alive somehow, and breaks the rest of the Sinister Six out of prison (now with Vulture). Dr. Octopus has a change of heart, wants to leave Peter alone, and the Green Goblin kills him.

3. The Sinister Six head to Peter's house, where instead they counter the Human Torch and Iceman.












So Peter manages to take down most of the Six (sans Goblin, who's passed out from before), but he's severely wounded. 

At this point, the entire neighborhood has seen Peter unmasked. The neighbors call for help, and Mary Jane's mother comes to Peter's assistance, and calls Aunt May.

Electro plans to fry Peter. Peter says, "Electro, I always meant to tell you...you were my greatest adversary and it was an honor to battle you. Oh wait. That wasn't you, I barely even gave you a second's thought."

Then:

(Just to clarify...this is Electro in the following page, NOT Iceman)



We get a splashpage of Electro pretty much going 'boom' and and in the process frying the rest of the SIx.

I mistook Electro for Iceman in the panel of him being shot and was quite confused.

I actually love this comic. It's been one of the ones I've followed for years. I'm not actually outraged Aunt May was using a gun (even though very very surprised), in that it kinda makes sense in the way she's been written all the way through and the situation. I really really hope this Peter if he dies won't be dead for long.

My one light at the end of the tunnel is that I am looking forward to Nick Fury and the other Avengers/Ultimates realising they've screwed up big time.

Yeaa, this is the Ultimate Universe so I wouldn't count on that. I would just hope that we get a swerve and it's just Peter's death being faked and him going into witness protection.

It does look like they're gearing up for his death - there's a fallout miniseries. It's possible he might retire, given the talk about how May didn't want this life, or maybe Cap puts his foot down and insists he be grounded... but honestly, the signs point to death, and as a long-term thing.

Or I suppose he could end up disabled? Thus 'death' of Spider-Man, but Peter carries on. IDK. He doesn't seem to be wounded in that way, though.

I love Peter and need more with him and Cap and Tony. :(

Aunt May is made out of GODDAMN AWESOME. She took out five members of the Sinister Six! She is made out of WIN and AWESOME and KICKING ASS FOREVER. I love Ultimate Spider-man.


I'm hoping Peter lives and just takes another secret identity. Or hell, doesn't and change the name to ULTIMATE PETER PARKER. I'd still read it.

USM is Bendis just doing the stories that he wants to write for the last 160 issues, bar the Ultimatium sidetracking. He's in charge of the book that he's writing.

The same probably can't be said for ASM.

But seriously, Nick Fury has got to be like- this lady has been practically running a youth shelter for young superheroes and just took out four of the guys that have trashed the Triskelion... twice! She's got to be made a SHIELD agent, or he'll just look bad. And she's kicked the ass of JJ Jameson- still quite a feat.

This series has been consistently terrific for a decade or more, unlike the 616-version. Peter, Aunt May -- the whole cast, basically -- have never been more interesting, especially Gwen Stacy.

If the cosmic balance demands we sacrifice a Spider-man, then keep USM and dump the 616 version. I won't mind if he's never in costume again, and it's a just year of Ultimate Aunt May and Ultimate Peter Parker talking at the kitchen table, this book is too good to lose.

uh no, the difference is that ultimate Spidey is a heroic underdog, where as 616 Spider-Man has been turned into a complete and utter worthless loser.

Slott, Quesada,Brevoort and Wacker do not seem to understand the difference.
