Things are much lighter this issue, after the last arc's laugh-a-minute chuckles of planetary war, dismemberments, and abortion. Mark's on good terms with Eve, his parents are reconciling, and he's off to catch up on his old life.

There are times when I really do enjoy Kirkman's writing.

Invincible?

Not ringing a bell.

I remember a book like this when I was young though. I don't remember what happened to it though.

How the...Wow. That was sneaky. No way in hell he could've done this by the time DC announced, so he must've heard the news and put it in. Heh.

Unless Kirkman was one of the people DC invited to pitch for them, I can't imagine he would've known. Too much lead time involved to produce and publish!

It is, however, a fairly extreme extrapolation of all the constant renumbering going on anyway, and he was RIGHT ON.

I love that there's a straight up 'stop the criminal before he does anything really bad'- these lighter moments of atonement really balances out the bloody gore moments!

Or he noticed the trend that has been going on in comics since long before the DC reboot.

Oh yes, that's true. But the "Did EVERY Series" line...that was perfect timing.

Nope, he just goes home and lives an honest life. Of course, hundreds of thousands of people die later, but that's unrelated...

Is it sad to say that the comic book company that spouted all of the Youngblood trash is officially dissing DC?

...and the security guard, who had no way of stopping the super and no union to go to bat for him, loses his job. The guys who got away with the mortgage crisis? They won't miss a single cigar or snifter of brandy.

So you're saying that, as long as he gives this guard a cut of the take, he's in the right?

...No actually while I'm sypmathetic I still can't go along with that. The bank's potential decision to lash out at its employee in what you admit is an irrational act isn't actually this thief's responsibility. Inasmuch as there is a causal connection, it argues that the bank isn't engaged in employment so much as a genteel form of hostage-taking.

They won't miss a single cigar or snifter of brandy.

A compelling argument that this fellow isn't stealing enough.

Actions have consequences. If I robbed a bank and someone died of a heart attack triggered by the potential threat, I can't just shrug and say, well, they should have taken better care of their health, not my lookout.

Actions have consequences.

You're quite right, which is why it's wrong of you to so neatly absolve our hypothetical bank of responsibility for its irrational, unjustified actions towards our hypothetical security guard by pinning the blame for those actions onto the bank robber.

I don't believe that I've absolved anyone of anything. I'm merely pointing out that I don't believe it's ethically justifiable to steal because someone else somewhere is getting away with it. Tu quoque is no way to go through life.

Because of the lead time for comics, this is either just a total coincidence, or likely not related specifically to the DC foolaunch.

Invincible is really the main superhero book I've been consistently enjoying since it started. I've just been buying the trades, but man. It's just so much fun.

I'm not big on the drama bits, but they're still pretty good too.

I like this. "Hey look, you haven't done anything really bad, you seem reasonable, you just need to think this through a bit more. So what say you give me the stolen goods, we call this even, and you go home and marry your girl?".
Much as I love a good superpowered brawl, the moments when no fight happens at all are just as satisfying.

he went back to his original colors some time last year, with some slight modifications to the costume. about an issue ago, he had some further modifications to return his costume to its original state because he didn't like the full-fingered gloves and boots.

I like this much better than I've liked a lot of the Invincible scans posted here. Kirkman ("Filip Schaff"?) even does a little self-deprecating humor.
