The latest issue of SUPERMAN is set during the post-Infinite Crisis period when Superboy (Conner Kent) was dead. (In fact, that's when it was originally written, five years ago, but for reasons they never revealed, DC canned the issue despite it being fully scripted and penciled already.)

The issue begins with a flashback to Superboy and -dog playing frisbee. The only problem is, regular frisbees are too fragile for Krypto's strength, but Conner does some quick thinking.

Eventually, Krypto uses his super-senses to follow Superboy's trail, which finally leads him to the scene of his death.

Amidst the controversy over the pulled story yesterday, I didn't feel it quite appropriate to point out that the replacement was actually a pretty damn good story, so thanks for posting this. When Busiek is on form there are few to touch him.

Yeah, as pissed-off as I am about the swap on the other hand I am pretty glad this did get to make it to publication.

Haha.
No, the "what" was a concise way to illustrate my disbelief of the reasoning mentioned in the article.

I honestly thought that was just a joke-article. The notion tha tit might not be is just too frightening.

Although that is the same writer who wrote a commentary about Grant Morrisson's Action Comics #1 shaping up to be a communistic comic.

It's not a complete impossibility--Morrison's said in the past that he wanted to do something about the Golden Age Superman, who was a New Deal kinda guy.

Punctuation is everyone's friend you know. ;P

If you'd added an exclamation mark or multiple question makes I'd have known it was outrage, if you'd added a single question mark I'd have known it was a query. As it stood, I took a punt and sort of missed. :)

I think that the "flat what" is a pretty standard thing nowadays. It has its own article on tv tropes.

I don't believe it--Busiek himself has commented on it and said that if they had a problem with that opening, they would have had it fixed in the scripting or penciling stages. Plus, if they thought that Superman saving a cat from a tree was too lame, why would they think that replacing an issue with that opening to a WHOLE ISSUE ABOUT A SUPER DOG would be better?

Honestly, I think DC's feeding Bleeding Cool bullshit to get back for scooping up so much of their DCnU stuff.

I don't buy it. Pulling the story for such a negligible sequence that could've been fixed at any level of development is completely ridiculous, especially given the upset caused when you pull a switch like that, and especially with this issue in particular. Because no matter the intention, it still causes a pretty widespread and busted effect.

what's more if scenes of superman saving kittens from trees is indicative of "everything wrong with superman" than that attitude is indicative of everything wrong with dc

Bah. Random gratuitous cute pet deaths are the Next Big Thing™.

I fully expect that they'll do even more to move product en masse than all the rapes, drug abuse relapses, kid deaths, and unnecessary planet-wide bloodbaths combined.

:/

I've talked before about the relationship between police and firefighters, and superheroes.

... another thing firefighters do is allow their ladder trucks to be used to fetch cats from out of trees. Hardly something that will get reported on the news. But [...] firefighters don't save tree-lost cats, for glory or thanks.

Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; it's most likely a joke anyway. I mean "scoured the globe"? BLEEDING COOL? Okay, then.
