RIP, Gene Colan
Jun. 24th, 2011 02:59 amJesus Christ, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I felt the community should know. We've lost the legendary Gene Colan, age 84.
Here's the link with words more eloquent written by Mark Evanier. http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2011 _06_23.html#020849

Another good one's joined the ranks of Kirby and Weiringo. He will be missed.

And his final interview, barely a month ago, is a genuinely remarkable one, that of a man with every faculty worth having intact.
I'm not beyond fear. I'm fearful about death. Everything that you ever wanted to do just goes up in smoke. The idea of being put in the ground or put under the ground is frightening. Most people don't want to talk about it... But I've decided to change my way of thinking. What they're telling me is not acceptible to me. I've got a tumor and it's cancer. And that's it. But I'm thinking that whatever you are thinking can come true. If it's not a selfish thought. I lean heavily on G-d now. I wasn't always like this. There isn't anything I have to be afraid of. Love is the answer. And the way to get there is by trying to find good in someone you don't necessarily like. Prayer can't be selfish. You don't pray for a yacht or money--you work hard if you want those things. But if you pray for unselfish things...
May we all have such clear thoughts as our own time draws near.

Date: 2011-06-24 11:48 am (UTC)We've reached that threshold where the greats of the late Silver Age are starting to leave us. And that's a DRAG. Gene Colan did tons of stuff (especially his Dracula work).
But the piece of art I immediately think of when he's mentioned is this:
R.I.P., sir. R.I.P.

Date: 2011-06-24 02:51 pm (UTC)Never in my life I had really seen a picture of Gene Colan in real life and I must say he reminds me of a late Granduncle who was like a big friend to me.
May Gene Colan find some peace now that he's not in this physical realm. May Gene Colan find enjoyment drawing Demons againt Kirby's Gods now that both of them are in the Comic Book Legends' Valhalla.
Fare thee well, Gene Colan.
Should we make a Gene Colan Week to pay homage to him, mine comrades?
