I remember awhile ago members were trying to explain to me the deep relationship that Ivy and Harley have.

WELL ABOUT THAT

The status quo has no time for friendship! Only stabbing!

Best thing about this is the innate humour in the "Be the first of your friends to like this" tag on the CBR page, because I'm damned if I'm going to be the first.

At this point what happens next really is Ivy's fault. She already knows Harley is over the edge and into the abyss with her relationship to Mr. J, and if she wanted her friend back the trick was to KILL the Joker.

Do what Harley could not.

Alternately, she should be smart enough not to turn her back on someone who's cunning and is very willing to kill her.

I mean Christ, if I ever dealt with a serial killer, I'd never show them my back unless it had freakin' armor on it.

honestly, without seeing the rest of the issue, i think thats the point... she knows the Joker is going to try and stab her. her plan is to shock Harley out of it, even if it means her life.

oh and another thing, (only now noticing that those are Harley's thought bubbles) maybe she is trying to get the Joker close enough to her so that she can strike him unawares (oh knowing Ivy enough that she know she will react in time.)

When you punch him, it turns out that his makeup just happens to be a chemical compound that converts armor into poison!

In the Harley Quinn mini, the Joker shooting Ivy was one of the big things that convinced Harley to stick it out on her own. (Ivy was dressed as Harley at the time. It's a fun read, actually. I miss the Harley of that book, who probably wouldn't be putting up with this shit.)

Would getting stabbed even kill Ivy? Or would it just be one of those mild inconvience wounds? I'm not entirely sure how Ivy's physiology works. I mean, she is a plant. Kinda.

Why didn't Ivy notice Joker cutting her vines? Shouldn't she be aware of her plants taking damage?

The very notion she's apparently dumb enough to turn her back ON THE JOKER trumps the "isn't she plant-empathic?" bit to me.

The fact that she didn't use those vines to snap Mr. J's neck outright beats turning her back on him.

as i said above, and without reading the rest of the issue, Ivy is not stupid, I think THIS is her plan, she KNOW the Joker, she feels her plants. The only way to snap Harley back is to show her that the Joker has no love for ANYTHING. she needs to shock her back to reality. she wants to save Harley even if it means her life. (though being part plant i think she knows she can survive that)

also (barely noticing those are Harley's thoug boxes) maybe she is trying to get the Joker close enough and unawares so that she can take him out (knowing that the way she came at him, head on, would not work) alternatively she might want Joker to get close enough to Ivy so that Ivy will react.

maybe i am giving the writer too much credit, but as coo koo as Harley is, she is als VERY intelligent. maybe Harley is right, and WE are underestimating her.

I'm afraid we're already too far into "Harley murders innocents and participates in grotesque torture" territory for me to care much. If that IS her plan, it's a very, very bad plan.

As also mentioned before, Ivy may be taking one of the team. She may be playing that the sight of the Joker stabbing her might snap Harley out of it.

That's what I am hoping.

Because the plot requires most of the characters to be utterly stupid to work.

Lordy the person who wrote this really hates character development. At least this bland predictable ride is almost over.

You'd think one of the writers would go, "Hey, we're being rebooted in two months anyway. Let's have Ivy KILL THE JOKER!"

God knows they'd never get to do it otherwise.

ummm is it just me.... look at Panel number three... Joker looks like he is Behind harley and in front of Ivy... she should be able to see himmoving... yet in the first few panels he is some what between them though more in front of Harley and Behind Ivy.... even with changing camera angles... that staging looks wrong....

I'm really not a fan of the Glasgow smile look for the Joker. It worked for the movie, but not so much in the comics.

As to this story, I can only assume that the writer has intentionally been making Harley out to be irredeemable in this story. If nothing else, her cheering on the Joker as he gleefully murdered half of the asylum demonstrated that the crazy but likeable Harley Quinn from the DCAU doesn't work in the mainstream DC Universe on account of her always playing cheerleader to a classless uncreative murdering dickbag.

The storyline was going -so well- up until that, too.

Her finally going after him to end it all once and for all.... and then, whoops, totally lost all character development over the past several years. All gone! :P

I always wanted Harley and the Riddler to start a detective agency together. But I'm weird.

Yeah, what the hell happened to all that build-up and development?
Joker just doesn't seem happy or spoiled enough. If he's having fun, show it! If he's not, make sure he plays up any childish frustration or callous boredom as much as possible! This is the JOKER!

Nah, this is the modern DCU Joker. Outside of a few exceptions, he hasn't been much more than a one-note killing machine for a decade or more.

Yea, I rarely find him fun.

I think the last time I enjoyed a Joker story was in Outsiders where he got intelligent apes to attack NYC so he could kidnap Lex Luthor and find out where his package went, and that's just because of how crazy his plan was.

Least Ivy and Harley aren't in pornstar poses.

Though that might have made the metric ton of bullshit about to go down a bit easier to swallow for me, actually. A distraction, if you will.

You know, I loved the concept of these 3 working together since Gotham Girls. It always seemed natural to me for the three female antagonists to interact with one another. Joker and Two-Face crack open a beer now and again, so why not Selina and Ivy? I was always opposed to Loeb's insistence that strong women always have to hate and fight each other.

But since issue 1, this series has time and again failed to iterate why these three would work together. The concept could have worked spectacularly if handled better and with more care.

I've read the series to see if it would ever pick up, but it seems that this book wasn't made for people who followed the three individual histories of these characters. Time and again, Calloway would take old storylines from their pasts and half-ass and bastardize them. Selina's sister. Ivy's issues with Woodrue. Harley and the Joker. It was like he was trying to introduce new readers to these facets of the characters but tried to do so in the most clichéd ways possible.

And now this. These three women are caricatures of their former selves. A more nuanced Ivy wouldn't be shouting at Harley shit like "Him or me!" and spewing crap about friendship. It's beneath the pride and intelligence of the character. A well-written Harley wouldn’t do a total 180 and help Joker at the drop of a hat. This isn't the same character from even two issues ago. And the real Selina wouldn't haphazardly form an emotional bond with these women based on a vague ideal of "sisterhood".

And it's a shame that when this series is cancelled and the girls go their separate ways, DC will completely write off a concept that could have been good, but was ruined by lazy writing, including Dini's.

Fucking MOTTO. I don't know why more people aren't expressing these very same thoughts. It seems like GCS as a whole and especially Calloway's run have been met with 90% apathy and 10% praise.

Well, it's nice to see at least one writer is just honestly saying "to hell with it". No, really. I mean, sure, Harley has had every last drop of character development since, like, No Mans Land, stripped away, and sure, Ivy's been turned into a jealous punk, and Selina is...well, I haven't been keeping up with the book except through here so I don't really know about Selina but I'm certain something stupid has happened to her, too.

What I mean is, why fight it? The whole thing is going down the tubes in two months anyway, so why not consign it to the most ignominious end imaginable?
