I think one would be able to cite obscure or lesser examples to disprove any generalization, especially when current writers attempt to dispel them by retconning, but my favorite comparison is between Galactus and Phoenix. They both ate to survive, and Galactus was often feared, but never deemed evil. Phoenix, linked to a female, had to be killed.
Also, even when matched head-to-head, male-to-female, Marvel started out with such a larger ratio of male heroes to females that treatment of the women is disturbing. (Marvel is, of course, not alone in this.)
