I think Lane has a lot of blame there, since it's his flinching which starts the chain of events (based on what I've seen here). The lead of such a project should know better than that.

Like maybe someone flinches, and then the superguy goes "huh well... actually, you bein' a little freaked out is pretty understandable, maybe I SHOULDN'T turn into a huge whiny murderdick over it."

In this case, when you're a normal person who has risked everything at the behest of this Lane guy, to become what Lane has always wanted, and then he reacts by being horrified of you, I'd be pissed

I recall that some years ago, comic creators wanted the "regular folks" of Metropolis to be freaked out by Superman. Not by Superman himself, but by the fact if Superman is around, some dangerous foe or disaster might be around as well.

Yeah, it's him. He shows up at the beginning of the issue warning Lane that his project will only end in lots of people being killed, not that anyone listens.

One thing I've learned from reading Elseworlds and What Ifs is that the status quo is always the desired outcome. My guess is that this is the most important book in that the Superman that emerges is the catalyst that fixes the Flashpointverse.

Barry's going to fix this, but...from what we've seen, Thomas Wayne wanted to help because he hates the world he lives in, so who's to say that Wonder Woman won't help because she doesn't want to be part of such a massive, life-destroying war, and then Kal-El helps because, despite somewhat understandably hating humanity for what was done to him, wants to have a world where he was never experimented on.

So, sorta like Blackest Night, where the big heroes were Hal and the New Guardians, but characters like Flash, Wonder Woman, Ray Palmer, and the other deputies played their part as well.

No, that's a US soldier--the way I understand it, the government caught Kal-El's spaceship before any lovely mid-western couple could get their mitts on him (Zoom probably had something to do with that), and they've been experimenting on him and trying to figure out how his Kryptonian body works, and, in this story, we see that they're trying to splice some human/Kryptonian stuff to make a super-soldier.

Didn't Barry wind up frying himself recently in an attempt to become the Flash again?

Oh, I'm sure he didn't really DIE, but the last few pages of Flashpoint #2 were the funniest thing I've seen in comics for a long time.

From the looks of it, we haven't seen Kal yet--they've been experimenting on him, extracting DNA from him so that the government can make their men into super-strong super-soldiers.

I believe one of the Flashpoint teasers had the S-shield and said something like, "They've been experimenting on him for all his life."

That halo he exhibits in the third row really reminds me of Apollo.

So I guess in the nuDC Apollo will specifically be someone experimented on using Superman's genetics. In other words Apollo will essentially be like the new version of Cir-El.
