It turns out, as we suspected, that Joker is in fact Martha Wayne, gone-crazy-with-maternal-grief or some such.

I was actually hoping to see that page scanned here, as I think she rocks the Ledger!Joker look damn well. I'd love to see Martha!Joker as cosplay now.

And that twist makes sense to me, actually. If the trauma of Bruce's death caused Thomas to become Batman, then it also makes about as much sense for Martha to snap and become the Joker.

Fair point. I think my goat has more been got by Cat-Oracle than it has by Martha-Joker. It's not the MOST logical reaction to a traumatising attack, but then this is a world in which the UK is populated by warrior-women in revealing outfits and slave eunuchs.

Oh well at least I hope Martha looks cool with the clown make up on (plus Batman/Joker fans would love this).

While he's not as over the bend as Martha, Thomas Wayne isn't exactly heroic.

While we haven't seen much of her clearly, it now very much makes we want to see Ledger!Joker cosplay by women. I'm sick and tired of Ledger!Joker cosplay dominating the character's followers, but even still, Martha!Joker is a variation I'd love to see. I think she rocks the outfit even better than Ledger.

On the contrary, I think it brings a very funny new dynamic to the Joker/Batman relationship, and it answers the question of why Thomas never killed the Joker.

I think, given I've heard some divorces are worse than world wars, it brings something fascinating to the concepts that we'd never get outside of Flashpoint, and as such, I'm glad Azzarello did it.

Yeah, but . . . she would've had to start in childhood . . . during a time she was dirt poor or possibly living in a Juvenile center . . . unless Eobard specifically went into her timeline to inspire her to pursue a life of computer hacking, it's kind of a stretch.

Why would you say that? Computer skills can be learned in adulthood. How good were Barbara Gordon's compuer skills before she lost the use of her legs?

I dont't know, there's only so many ways a quadrapalegic can be contribute in a major way to crimefighting. So all you really have to swallow is that she's a crimefighter in this world, which isn't a large pill at all considering a lot of her past behavior in the regular universe and considering it's implied the Joker's responsible for her condition. Becoming a crimefighter after an experience of great personal tragedy is a staple of the Bat-world.

You know what I don't like about this?

It's the implication that Oracle is THE CHAIR. That anyone in THE CHAIR can be Oracle, logic or personal history be damned.

Well, look at the reaction to giving Barbara mobility, even aside from ever donning the Batgirl costume, and you'd easily get the impression.
