Titans Annual #1
Jul. 8th, 2011 03:07 pmThe issue begins two weeks ago. Qurac is succeeding in their invasion of Kahndaq when Osiris and Isis get involved.
Osiris is pretty ruthless, and Isis tells him to restrain himself, because harming those weaker than them sends the wrong message. Osiris replies that it says one thing: "Get. Out. And stay out."
Isis thinks that she can see the bloodlust in Osiris's eyes, just like the first time he he lost control...

Okay, I can understand Isis being worried about Osiris, but really? There's nothing to suggest that Osiris would ever try harming Isis. And frankly, I don't think Black Adam would have a problem with Osiris's behavior here. And I'm sick of the Persuader's death being used as an example of Osiris's "bloodlust," when it was clear it was something that horrified him..
The Qurac army retreats, but Osiris kills them anyway.

In the present, Deathstroke gets the JLA to leave by telling them that his jet has a nuclear self-destruct system.
The Titans go to Kahndaq, where Osiris attacks Deathstroke for lying about bringing Black Adam back, but Deathstroke tells him he can still do it.

What does Deathstoke being a father have to do with anything?

The Titans battle the JLA.
Supergirl tells Osiris that Deathstroke is a mercenary, and that his loyalty can be bought. Osiris asks how much she charges, and she says "Wonder Girl was right. You're a real &#$@." Okay, Osiris is acting like an ass now, but the fact that Wonder Girl would call him one pisses me off. If you don't remember, in Titans #24 Osiris went to Wonder Girl for help in freeing Black Adam and Isis, and Wonder Girl told him that he had to turn himself in for killing the Persuader (despite the fact that she and Supergirl never turned themselves in for attacking the president's plane). Ugh.
Isis, who is watching the fight, says that it's threatening to destroy her city.

The JLA is forced to leave. Osiris tells Isis that he's proud of her, and that she proved herself a worthy queen. Isis says she agrees, "which is why I will govern Kahndaq from now on, not you, brother."

Deathstroke tells Osiris that the person who can resurrect Black Adam is waiting for them at the Labyrinth (the Titans' headquarters, if you've forgotten).
Earlier in the issue, we saw that Sivana has built a giant machine there called the Methuselah Device, which can "regenerate human cells on a microscopic level, restoring lost youth and vitality by temporarily arresting cellular degradation," and that "exposure to its effects allow a man to cheat death itself, indefinitely."
Deathstroke and the Titans show up, and Deathstroke gives Sivana a piece of Supergirl's bloody cape, which he got during the battle when he stabbed her in the back with a kryptonite knife. When Roy asks about it, Deathstoke tells him that the blood is going to save the life of someone very important to him: Jericho, who we see is dying.

Date: 2011-07-08 07:57 pm (UTC)Why am I happy about this, you may ask? Well, comics have conditioned me to stop liking characters. The creators only want to give us their suffering, so eventually, I stopped wanting them to have anything even remotely joyous happen to them. The only pleasure I can take in comics now is at the emotional torture they subject the characters to.
So, I am right BURSTING with pleasure, now!
Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; am I being sarcastic? I don't even know anymore!

And while I love Superboy-Prime, I don't really think his downfall is comparable to Roy's. Also, the "he had no control over his strength" only applied to his fight with the Titans in Infinite Crisis #4. Everyone else he's killed has been intentional.

Date: 2011-07-09 02:01 am (UTC)1)The Quarci army attacks a nation they know (based on previous issues) that houses the wife and b-i-l of Black Adam (aka the guy who literally destroyed Biyala with his bare hands) who are not only just as strong as BA but came back from the dead? What nation in their right mind attacks one with such Shazam powered individuals? As soon as they SAW Osiris or even knew he was back in Khandaq they should have been retreating.
2) Isis threatens to start WWIII - which is exactly what DC referred to Black Adams's war in 52 as. You know, the series that introduced Isis and Osiris and killed them off to begin with? Hello, Eric Wallace?
3) Donna tells Isis she may be a Khandaqi by birth but is an Amazon at heart. Hello again, Eric Wallace. But Adrianna and Amon Tomaz are Egyptian by origin not Khandaqi. This was ALSO made clear in 52.
4) The JLA storms into a sovereign nation and starts giving orders to its rulers? WTF? Dick knows better than that. Especially since outside of Supergirl, said rulers are stronger than ANYONE on the current JLA team.
5) Isis is revered as Black Adam's queen and savior of Khandaq (once again - straight from 52), Osiris is just her brother and any authority he has is at her sufferance yet here he gives her lip about being ruler and what not? Why?
6) Why would anyone trust Deathstroke in anything? I know about the part about Sivana's weapon in the later half of the book but at this point he's made promise after promise to Osiris about bringing Black Adam back and NEVER provided proof of how and why he would do so.
Supergirl tells Osiris that Deathstroke is a mercenary, and that his loyalty can be bought. Osiris asks how much she charges, and she says "Wonder Girl was right. You're a real $@." Okay, Osiris is acting like an ass now, but the fact that Wonder Girl would call him one pisses me off. Ugh.
Seriously, why is no one in DCU except the Editorially despised ever picked on for their hypocrisy (especially Supergirl - who during her Paris Hilton faze once sold out an entire planet of innocent people to supervillains aka FauxKandor for cash/information which made Powergirl wash her hands of her) and Wonder Girl (aka the girl who told the just resurrected Osiris that the Teen Titans position was not to help him in any way but that he had to "turn himself in" for the crime of protecting his sister even though no evidence has ever been provided in Wallace's writing that anyone in the UN or anywhere else is looking to prosecute Amon on any charge).
This book is so horrible and makes no sense (why these people are together and listening to Deathstroke is less logical than Selina bunking with Harley/Ivy in Gotham City Sirens) and I'm pretty sure DC could care less about it at this point, especially with DCnU coming up, which leads to a serious question - what was the point of this book or the point of the continued screwing of the Shazam franchise by connecting them (or at least the Black Adam part) to this book in the first place? I still don't get it. Wouldn't it have been easier to use the resurrection of Osiris and the search for Isis and Black Adam as a starting point for a new Shazam title with the REAL Marvel Family in it? I bet anything it would have sold more than this vile stuff.
