One of my favourite heroine team-ups from the Silver-age/Bronze-age comics.

From Batman Family #17: 15 out of 62 pages.
Both Poison Ivy and Catwoman are planning individual heists and turn to then newcomer Madame Zodiac for "future broadcasts" of their success.

Of course, it's only to be expected they'd both call rubbish on their foretold encounters, but Madame Zodiac maintains she is 110% accurate. Either way, Both Cat and Ivy go their separate ways to carry on with their agendas. Ivy is of course taken out by Babs, but Babs is effectively also taken out by none other than Madame Zodiac, but only for the sake of teaching Ivy a lesson about doubting her.
Then, Enter Catwoman and Huntress, who--unbeknownst to Cat--is her own daughter from a parallel universe.

And of course, Huntress is also shortly knocked out by Madame Zodiac as another lesson to Catwoman about having her doubts. (Oh Huntress...I love you and all...but you need better lines my dear...)
Now that all lessons have been learned, Madame Zodiac proposes a heist of her own, but needs the cooperation of both Cat and Ivy. (The only time in history that a team-up between Catwoman and Poison Ivy actually ever made sense...)

Unbeknownst to Pammy and Selina though, Babs, Helena, and Kathy Kane have also planned a trip to the museum for no other reason than to stop a heist. Go figure!
Exit Babs, Helena, and Kathy; Enter Bagirl, Huntress, and Batwoman respectively!

(Huntress wouldn't let the Cat have her yarn for one minute, so of course she's going to take it out on that crossbow!)

Poor Ivy and Cat. They both got ditched by Madame Zodiac who made off with the merchandise. Bastard!
And because we've only seen what Helena Wayne has learned from her daddy, time to see what skills she did learn from her mommy!

Bypassing maximum security, lock-picking, and kicking around males who get in the way? Definitely Catwoman traits! She did in fact acquire the best skills from both her parents. (Still need better dialogue here Huntress...)
Nevertheless, despite writers not being able to break any cliches with Helena Wayne, something good still came out of Helena beating the Earth-1 version of her mother after all. Years later, Selina actually decides to go straight for Batman.
Batman is so impressed with her new attitude, he actually allows her to take him out on a date. Dawwwwww!

A bloody shame the world(s) ended before we had a chance to see where this would have gone. I guess we'll never know of Helena Wayne would have been born on Earth-1 too. :/

Date: 2011-07-10 09:38 am (UTC)Substitute Kathy and Helena at least at the museum caper with Cass and Steph with Babs. It's these kind of appearances that show "Hey these character's matter! Here's a story with them. Sorry they're not in the main arc in X title, but check it out, they're going to be in next months issue of Batman family fighting Angle Man with Wonder Girl and Nightwing!
I love continuity, but then I also hate continuity as it creates problems of "well who can I use" and "No you can't use that character, they're in New Zealand over in this book,"
This post being Batgirl related it just sends me to my thoughts on Babs becoming Batgirl again, and quite frankly, she just doesn't look very useful here. Nothing even Misfit could do. I would like to see Steph, Cass and Babs team-ups though if all three are Bat-somethings or at least still a valued member of the Batman family.

Date: 2011-07-10 10:50 am (UTC)An excellent point. Not only is Barbara going back to Batgirl a regression of character, not only is it another instance of someone in a minority being replaced or changed into someone not in a minority, but Babs as Batgirl doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Cass as Batgirl was an interesting character dynamic, and a rather unique one (especially when she was introduced). Misfit as "a batgirl" is a fun character with a cool power that should make her way more effective than she has been. Stephanie as Batgirl has her trademark perspective and the fun of watching a somewhat rookie hero growing up and gaining experience and getting better. Babs as Batgirl . . . doesn't have any of that. She might be snarky, but so was Steph, so's Misfit. She might have a photographic memory, but that's not as useful in a fight as being able to read your opponent like an open book, or teleport around and drive an enemy nuts. Her photographic memory only ever gave her the potential to be a better Detective than Batman, it doesn't automatically make her better at noticing clues and drawing conclusions from them. It served her better as Oracle.
If she really is just able to walk around again, even under the pen of Gail Simone, what does she offer?

Bruce: What puns, are you going bats?
Selina: She's complained about it since she was a mewling toddler.
Helena: GAH. They're not even GOOD puns.
