(Less than) Amazing Spider-Man Trailer
Jul. 20th, 2011 10:25 pm Hot on the heels of the Dark Knight Rises teaser, here is the trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot,
Whoa, first Howling goes all emo and Twilighty, and now this? This is kind of strange. Kind of disappointed that Dr Connor's isn't Welsh though.
*Sigh* We will miss you Tobey Maguire. Your protrayal of Peter as a self obsessed manchild balancing on the edge of kidnapping Mary Jane and keeping her in a hole in Aunt May's basement will surely be missed.

The end sequence looks familiar though...
Yeah, that's right. Faith don't need no stinkin' superpowers!
For legality,

It may be a little derivative (and IIRC the bullet time effects in The Matrix grew out of some effects used for a car ad) but I LOVE the Spider-Cam sequence.

makes no sense at all?
Yeah, Andrew is too good-looking to play Peter. And I really hope they show the scientist side of Peter. And get Peter even reasonably right (which the Raimi films never did)
Also, I am NOT interested in what they are doing with his parents. They do NOT need to be in this! Don't make them spies, please!
(Also, I love how Gwen says Peter lives with his Aunt and Uncle like "OMG ISN'T THAT SO STRANGE AND FUNNY" Way to be insulting, Gwen)

makes plenty of sense.
Originally, Peter met Gwen when they were studying science at Empire State University. I thought it was generally accepted that Gwen was as smart as she was attractive. Gwen's been given internships in other mediums too. In the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon she's give an internship at Connors' lab along with Peter. She manages to keep it longer than Peter too.

Date: 2011-07-20 10:47 pm (UTC)I was never around to read most of the Gwen stuff, and I never watched the cartoon. So my Gwen-experience comes from the Ultimate line and the Death of.. Trade.
That little tidbit is interesting, because I read someone arguing that Gwen was a flat character when she was with Peter, and wasn't as well developed as her Ultimate counterpart.

Date: 2011-07-20 10:52 pm (UTC)Though the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon is amazing, it's 26 episodes long because it was cancelled during the Disney buyout thing.
In my understanding though, her Ultimate counterpart is much more developed.

Date: 2011-07-20 11:10 pm (UTC)And I know Spider-Man 3 was bad but the first two were great. The second one in particular is IMO the definitive comicbook film. When you read some of the supporters on the internet, you'd think this was the equivalent of Christopher Nolan picking up from Joel Schumacher. But I guess when you're replacing something you have to tear down your predecessor.
Redux from another trailer post
Date: 2011-07-20 11:12 pm (UTC)Yes Man: Well, there's Twilight.
IP: Great! They're making lots of money?
YM: Well yes, but...
IP: But?
YM: Well, it's filled with really bad writing, cliches, and emo characters.
IP: What's its demographic?
YM: Sceraming...teenage girls?
IP: Perfect! We need to expand beyond basement nerds!
YM: But sir, people HATED the emo Peter Parker in...
IP: Who?
YM: Peter...Parker? Spider-Man?
IP: Oh right! You mean that Toby kid. Well, what's that Twilight guy look like?
YM: Bland, big stupid hair...
IP: Perfect! Get someone just like him.
YM: But...
IP: Oh, and when we release the trailer, make ABSOLUTELY sure there is zero humour in it.
YM: But Spider-Man's supposed to be funn...
IP: ZERO!
YM: Yessir. *sob*

Date: 2011-07-20 11:17 pm (UTC)The "Peter's parents were spies" bit works if you realize Peter risks his life as Spider-Man in secret so no one will know it is him (Peter) doing it. Spies operate for the benefit of their country, often when their country doesn't know about it.
The ending of the Colin Farrell movie "The Recruit" could work as an ending of a Spider-Man movie.
"You were born to do this, Peter. It's in your blood."
Re: Redux from another trailer post
Date: 2011-07-20 11:29 pm (UTC)Yes Man: Well, the first one had a vampire that was all about hunting and killing humans. The third one had newborn vampires that couldn't control their rage and bloodlust.
IP: Hunting, killing, rage, bloodlust... Just add in a few "science is bad" morals and this movie writes itself!
YM: It may have to. *sob*
