Hot on the heels of the Dark Knight Rises teaser, here is the trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot,

Whoa, first Howling goes all emo and Twilighty, and now this? This is kind of strange. Kind of disappointed that Dr Connor's isn't Welsh though.

*Sigh* We will miss you Tobey Maguire. Your protrayal of Peter as a self obsessed manchild balancing on the edge of kidnapping Mary Jane and keeping her in a hole in Aunt May's basement will surely be missed.

The end sequence looks familiar though...

Yeah, that's right. Faith don't need no stinkin' superpowers!

Hmm, interesting they're actually having someone wonder about what happened to his mum and dad, though perhaps it doesn't really matter, since the comics managed it for years, until they brought in the "They were spies on the side" bit.

Don't know enough about this take on Peter to judge yet, but the jury's out. Pretty enough, but I want Peter-the-picked-on-science-geek and I'm not sure this is him.

It may be a little derivative (and IIRC the bullet time effects in The Matrix grew out of some effects used for a car ad) but I LOVE the Spider-Cam sequence.

I really don't understand why this movie can't just do what the new Hulk movie did and tell the origin in the credits and get it over with there. Everyone knows his origin, do we really need to see it again? He gets bit by a spider, yes alright, we get it, move along.

It looks like their making Gwen a scientist/intern

Which...

makes no sense at all?

Yeah, Andrew is too good-looking to play Peter. And I really hope they show the scientist side of Peter. And get Peter even reasonably right (which the Raimi films never did)

Also, I am NOT interested in what they are doing with his parents. They do NOT need to be in this! Don't make them spies, please!

(Also, I love how Gwen says Peter lives with his Aunt and Uncle like "OMG ISN'T THAT SO STRANGE AND FUNNY" Way to be insulting, Gwen)

This film could really do wonders for Emma Stone's career. She's possibly the only reason I'm going to watch the film. Other than that, I hate the guy's hair and the total lack of funny in the trailer.

When I first saw the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trailer I was so giddy and excited. This just gets a "meh".

And I know Spider-Man 3 was bad but the first two were great. The second one in particular is IMO the definitive comicbook film. When you read some of the supporters on the internet, you'd think this was the equivalent of Christopher Nolan picking up from Joel Schumacher. But I guess when you're replacing something you have to tear down your predecessor.

Redux from another trailer post

Idiot Producer: We need to make a new Spider-Man movie. All right, what's popular and making stupid amounts of money these days?

Yes Man: Well, there's Twilight.
IP: Great! They're making lots of money?
YM: Well yes, but...
IP: But?
YM: Well, it's filled with really bad writing, cliches, and emo characters.
IP: What's its demographic?
YM: Sceraming...teenage girls?
IP: Perfect! We need to expand beyond basement nerds!
YM: But sir, people HATED the emo Peter Parker in...
IP: Who?
YM: Peter...Parker? Spider-Man?
IP: Oh right! You mean that Toby kid. Well, what's that Twilight guy look like?
YM: Bland, big stupid hair...
IP: Perfect! Get someone just like him.
YM: But...
IP: Oh, and when we release the trailer, make ABSOLUTELY sure there is zero humour in it.
YM: But Spider-Man's supposed to be funn...
IP: ZERO!
YM: Yessir. *sob*

Some of the music at the start sounds a lot like Placebo's "Running up That Hill."

The "Peter's parents were spies" bit works if you realize Peter risks his life as Spider-Man in secret so no one will know it is him (Peter) doing it. Spies operate for the benefit of their country, often when their country doesn't know about it.

The ending of the Colin Farrell movie "The Recruit" could work as an ending of a Spider-Man movie.

"You were born to do this, Peter. It's in your blood."

First of all: Enough with the origin story. The cartoon in the 90s told it, the short-lived MTV cartoon in the early 00s told it, the first movie told it. It's been told and retold as many times as Supes's and Bats's origin. We all know it. Peter Parker, science nerd who gets bitten by radioactive spider. Boom. Done. It can only be retold so many times before we all get sick of seeing it.

Second, where is the humour? Where is the wise-cracking Spidey? And what is up with the hair?

This is going to be just as bad as I thought it would be when I first heard they were rebooting this with a "darker" tone. Spidey and Dark are not too words that belong in the same sentence. Okay he has his moments of angst but he's also...well, Spidey.

We don't need yet another dark and broody superhero who never smiles and get can't past their tragic beginnings. Oy vey you putzes, not every superhero needs to be Batman!

That last first person part was good. Honestly though I do not have high hopes at all for this movie. The Tobey Maguire ones were great, and would work well with the newer avengers stories. I wish this was more like a prequal of the first, maybe just detailing HS spidey.

Anything that doesn't start with "My tale is not for the faint of heart..." is already ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned.

While, yeah, it's not "my" take on Spider-Man, it could be a strong new series (and the action could be fun).

While not 100% sold, getting more hopeful.

I'm sick of hearing this described as 'emo-Spidey', as though Peter didn't spend nearly the entirety of the Raimi movies moaning and bitching about Mary Jane and being hit over the head with the miserable stick. Any film that doesn't see Peter as being 'responsible' enough to lie to his brain damaged best friend to his own advantage is an improvement.

Plus, y'know, Emma Stone.

Ya know, I don't hate this.

Maybe it's because I'm not particularly wedded to either Spidey or the Raimi movies, but I reckon this could be pretty good, actually. Certainly, Andrew Garfield seems a bit more engaging than I found Tobey Maguire to be.

And yeah, like mrstatham says, it's not as if Raimi's Spidey was a ray of sunshine and good vibes either.

On one hand it's great to finally have the web shooters, see a High School student Peter Parker, have the Lizard has a villain...
On the other I'm having so much pain accepting this guy as Peter Parker/Spider-man...
I mean, Hipster/Twilight Spider-man? Waugh....

Mmmmh... Another reboot really? And if the movie bombs, for example, will Marvel get the rights back from Sony and re-reboot it in its movie Marvel U?

And is it only me or is this direction a tad bit too dark for Spidey?

And what's up with the Mirror's Edge scene? Hopefully only made for the teaser trailer...right? Not in the actual movie...right?? Right??

Am I the only one who hated Toby MacGuire's face?
And I kind of get why they need to redo his origin as this is kind of a new take, but yeah, it's been done before. Many times.
Welp, let's see how it goes.
