So, who is this man? What can he do? What powers does he possess? And will Emma ever stop being quite so generically snarky.



That's.... really sort of brilliant, and so long overdue it's beyond words. A normal guy, a therapist WITHOUT an agenda, there to counsel the residents of Utopia, who have been through more crap than most can imagine, and most of it so bizarre that there is no frame of reference to deal with it yourself. Sure, we can all have persecution complex's and suffer from lack of self worth, but how often have we been attacked by ACTUAL killer robots from the future, or felt insecure because their powers were passive as opposed to the guy next to them who can punch down walls like they're tissue paper.

Dani take Gus to observe Nate Grey, X-Man, who is now resident in Utopia, but lost nearly all of his telekinetic powers in the previous issue and is having serious problems adapting.

Gus notices someone staring intently at Nate, but not interacting with him... Dani explains that Hope is a sort of a "Mutant Messiah".

There then follows the sort of moment which can only come in X-Men comics as Dani tries to explain the situation...



Gus is instantly either the bravest man I've ever seen, or insane himself, if he WANTS to deal with this sort of baggage voluntarily! Or maybe he's just salivating at the thought of the papers that could be written on the psychology of the Summers family.

The New Mutants is an underrated book, I just wish they'd manage to avoid a few of the all consuming "events" and let us see them as "people" again.

Has Ms Frost never seen any general fiction-media involving American Indians or Native Americans in the modern day? It is pretty routine for a male with Tribal connections to wear a so-called 'Cowboy hat' or 'Western' attire.

I find this an interesting turn of events, I hope his sessions get meaty.

She's worked with Dani, and was headmistress and team leader for James Proudstar's/Thunderbird/Warpath, so she should be aware of such things.

looks cool, but sometimes they actually seem like try to make things difficult in the explanation. Nate's genetically identical to Cable, like twins but comes from a different dimension.

Are they genetically identical? Cable was the "standard method of procreation" son of Maddy Pryor and Scott Summers. Nate is the result of a "test-tube genetic engineering program" of Mr Sinister's. I could see them as siblings, but not twins.

The Summers family tree isn't so much a tree so much as it is one of those forests that turn out to be the same organism. Also it's nonlinear and multidimensional, so there's that.
I think every super team needs a psychologist. Just look at all the stuff that could have been prevented in X-Men. The Goblin Queen, M-Day, the list goes on.

I like where they're going with this, but did they really have to set Emma up as a particularly stupid foil for Scott's reasoning? I would think both Scott and Emma would already agree that bringing in a cognitive therapist might be useful and that her dialogue would have made more sense coming from one of the kids. Aside from the objection to working with non-mutants, "Gus Grim" is no stupider a name than "Emma Frost." What have they done to you, Emma?

Not sure, 27 isn't out yet is it? Neither Warlock nor Sunspot are there either.

Generally I think the recap highlights the team in the issue, not the complete team (sort of like the old Legion and JLA role calls on the splash page).

Have Sam and Bobby apologized for that whole "Illyana, the girl who ripped off Anole's arm, ripped out Prodigy's heart, and tore out a chunk of Pixie's soul, deserves to be here more than any of you New X-Men kids" yet?

I only ask because this looks interesting, but I refuse to read a book with those two in it until they apologize/get proper comeuppance for that.

To be fair to Illyana 2.0, she wasn't the one to cut off Anole's arm (random Limbo demon) or rip out Prodigy's heart (Belasco).

And no, I don't think they've ever apologized. Though Sam once said something like "If Pixie ever went evil you'd go to Limbo to save her" in order to guilt Anole so that he would convince Pixie to help rescue Illyana (Colossus had nearly attacked her and destroyed her bedroom when she'd refused)

Gus reminds me of the therapist in the book 'Patient Zero.' Like there's all these incredibly talented super secret agents but the therapist guy ends up being the most important because he can step in and stop people from falling apart at key moments.

Maybe I should start reading this again? I've been away from Marvel for a long time though.

One of the things I always liked about Marvel was that they understood the need for the occasional shrink. (Are there any respectable superhero/cape shrinkers in the DC 'verse other than one-shots? And don't mention that movie Batman love interest or I will slap you with this Internet.) And a cognitive specialist, possibly with some experience dealing with something like disaster survivors or PTSD, would be pretty damn ideal.

Meanwhile I am going to boggle quietly that there are zomg TWO Native characters here and they aren't currently on a rez or on a plotline devoted to some stupid faux NA villain. And he doesn't even look like a walking cliche! (She looks a little bit like Disney Pocahontas X-Man here, but I know nothing about the character.) Nor does he have a cliche name! I really, really hope this guy doesn't bite it or villainize.
