Well, Marvel are doing it again, offering to give a varient covers of one of their comics in exchange for retailers destroying issues of DC's comics.
In this case, they're offering to send out copies of Fear Itself 6 in exchange for 50 covers ripped off of issues of Flashpoint 1.

There's being petty, and there's being Petty, Marvel.
For legality, Traci 13

And in better news, I've been collecting Legend of Korra concept art and screenshots over on my blog, go and have a look if you're interested. :)

Date: 2011-07-26 10:47 pm (UTC)The way DC brushed off many fans this year, and the way Marvel treats the competition really is making me rethink my desire of working in the industry.

Date: 2011-07-26 11:16 pm (UTC)It's why I don't really have any interest in going to cons. The aim seems to be to have a good time more than it is to inform. Don't get me wrong, I understand why they do it. Most of the audiences clearly has a blast, judging by the laughter. Heck, I laugh, too. But when I leave, I feel disappointed because if I wanted to have a good time cracking joke, I could have just hung out with a few friends. I didn't travel miles and pay for a ticket just so I could do what I can do for free back home.
But that's why I don't really mind the aforementioned kind of comments at con panels. It's when they take it outside that tongue-in-cheek atmosphere that it's annoying, like here with this exchange program.

Date: 2011-07-26 11:27 pm (UTC)And yeah, I understand that it's equally as easy to have a laugh with friends at home without travelling a distance or paying for tickets, but it is nice to go to conventions for the like mindedness of other fans. Where I live, nobody reads comics, at all. I had a flatmate who was really into the DCAU and other superhero animation and movies, but he didn't read comics unless I lent them to him. I have a friend who really wants to go to Comic-Con next year but even she's more of a cult film fan than a comic fan.

Date: 2011-07-27 07:32 am (UTC)Er, why? If a retailer really is sitting on fifty issues that they can't sell (and there's no other scenario in which a retailer would go through with this, since selling those comics would make more money than selling any one variant cover-sporting issue), then why shouldn't they exchange them for one they can sell? It doesn't harm their customers. Retailers are businesses; If they're being offered a free safety net (albeit a weak, ragged one), why shouldn't they take it?

Date: 2011-07-27 10:23 am (UTC)After all, a lot of the stuff attributed to Lee was in fact co-created by him, Kirby, Steve Ditko etc. but Stan overplays his involvement because he's the only one still alive that wants any publicity.
Some examples of things that Stan lee created by himself.
I'm not saying that Stan Lee isn't a nice guy, he seems to be an affable guy from the interviews and things I've seen. He just seems to portray himself as a product some of the time, at the expense of other creators.

Date: 2011-07-27 10:30 am (UTC)The fact that there are now AT LEAST four people who can Airbend in this universe kind of makes the new series name 'the Last Airbender' kind of stupid, as Tenzin or even Aang AREN'T the last Airbender any more.
Also, sad fact, Aang must have died some 16/17 years ago in order for him to be reincarnated in Korra, meaning that he didn't have a chance to see any of Tenzin's kids as none of them are in their teens yet.

Date: 2011-07-27 11:51 am (UTC)I love Jack Kirby moreso than Stan Lee actually.
Stan Lee loves his public image, using his legendary status nowadays to boost some of his lesser good ideas..

Date: 2011-07-27 02:11 pm (UTC)Either way it's a childish stunt, but it's not like they're asking retailers to take a current title off the shelves for it.

Date: 2011-07-27 07:19 pm (UTC)And people haven't always been able to airbend, they learned from the Sky Bison, so there may be people who have the potential for airbending but never learned how.
Well since Aang had two other kids maybe he got to meet some of his older grandchildren before he died.
