Well, Marvel are doing it again, offering to give a varient covers of one of their comics in exchange for retailers destroying issues of DC's comics.

In this case, they're offering to send out copies of Fear Itself 6 in exchange for 50 covers ripped off of issues of Flashpoint 1.

There's being petty, and there's being Petty, Marvel.

For legality, Traci 13

And in better news, I've been collecting Legend of Korra concept art and screenshots over on my blog, go and have a look if you're interested. :)

Comic books everyone, if any retailers honestly go through with this I will lose respect for them. That being said I have always been more marvel then DC, I dont know the FF, Xmen, and Avengers juat vibe with me more then the JLA.

It's weird how Marvel's always knocking DC. Usually, when there are two competing businesses, isn't it the less popular one that always comments on the more popular one? Think Coke and Pepsi. It's Pepsi that always talks about beating Coke in taste tests or whatever. Coca-Cola never mentions Pepsi in their ads. But in comics, despite Marvel being number one for decades now, they're the ones always throwing jabs DC's way, while DC never compares itself to Marvel.

Yeah, I noticed quite a bit of it happening on the liveblogs of Comic Con this year, Marvel saying things about the new 52 and comparing it to the new Ultimate lineup. Something like "You only need 4 books to follow this universe, not 52." and there was something else but there was a comment of "Let's see Dan Didio do that."

The way DC brushed off many fans this year, and the way Marvel treats the competition really is making me rethink my desire of working in the industry.

The thing is I rarely see people buy variants. My favorite store has them for like 19.95 and no one picks them up. I do not know how other stores work, but I do not see how throwing out regular priced books is productive for varients.

I don't really mind the con stuff because most panels have a tongue-in-cheek, jokey atmosphere to them where you aren't supposed to take anything too seriously. A panelist gets asked a question, whether by a reader or another panelist, and their answer's as likely to be a joke as a serious one ("What DC character that you haven't worked on would you be most interested in writing?" "Raggedy Anne." Cue audience guffaw.)

It's why I don't really have any interest in going to cons. The aim seems to be to have a good time more than it is to inform. Don't get me wrong, I understand why they do it. Most of the audiences clearly has a blast, judging by the laughter. Heck, I laugh, too. But when I leave, I feel disappointed because if I wanted to have a good time cracking joke, I could have just hung out with a few friends. I didn't travel miles and pay for a ticket just so I could do what I can do for free back home.

But that's why I don't really mind the aforementioned kind of comments at con panels. It's when they take it outside that tongue-in-cheek atmosphere that it's annoying, like here with this exchange program.

I can relate to that. I went to Anime Expo in LA last year, which is kind of a big deal since I live in England, but I also used dates around it to make it a holiday in LA. I really enjoyed the convention, it had great atmosphere, everybody was very friendly, I attended a few panels which all looked really good but I felt disappointed too, since I didn't get any information out of it, a couple of clips and what not, but nothing I saw was real, it's not something I'll ever be able to buy in a shop over here.

And yeah, I understand that it's equally as easy to have a laugh with friends at home without travelling a distance or paying for tickets, but it is nice to go to conventions for the like mindedness of other fans. Where I live, nobody reads comics, at all. I had a flatmate who was really into the DCAU and other superhero animation and movies, but he didn't read comics unless I lent them to him. I have a friend who really wants to go to Comic-Con next year but even she's more of a cult film fan than a comic fan.

Oh goodness. So now we know: Korra is hot and badass, Mako is hot, Toph's daughter is boss and Tenzin's daughter is the cutest thing ever.

Even though there's still so much more awesome and we've seen only a little, does anything else matter? (Well, a lot matters, but still.)

"Comic books everyone, if any retailers honestly go through with this I will lose respect for them."

Er, why? If a retailer really is sitting on fifty issues that they can't sell (and there's no other scenario in which a retailer would go through with this, since selling those comics would make more money than selling any one variant cover-sporting issue), then why shouldn't they exchange them for one they can sell? It doesn't harm their customers. Retailers are businesses; If they're being offered a free safety net (albeit a weak, ragged one), why shouldn't they take it?

True that!
I love Jack Kirby moreso than Stan Lee actually.

Stan Lee loves his public image, using his legendary status nowadays to boost some of his lesser good ideas..

Well, this time and last time, they're offering the exchange for books that are a few months old (Flashpoint #1), so the point is less "Sacrifice 50 books to get this!" and more like "I bet you didn't sell that title as well as you hoped, cause it sucks, so why not just rip em up and get this variant, instead of sticking them in the bargain bin?"

Either way it's a childish stunt, but it's not like they're asking retailers to take a current title off the shelves for it.

It's strange. Bending is supposed to be spiritual, not a genetic trait passed on to offspring. Katara's parents weren't benders (though I suppose it could have skipped a generation or two).

And people haven't always been able to airbend, they learned from the Sky Bison, so there may be people who have the potential for airbending but never learned how.

Well since Aang had two other kids maybe he got to meet some of his older grandchildren before he died.

Heh, that would be interesting and awesome. I almost want and expect a kind of doting but exasperated yet patient Commissioner and ever impulsive but charming to the point of being forgiven for and getting away with nearly everything Korra. But I could definitely see a Barbara/Terry thing working well for them too.
