I do not know a crazy lot about phoenix, but it might have been when the entity first got hold of Jean. Those robots are extremly advanced(More high take then tony's suit because birch pulled them from the Future). For all we know those bots could have been made in a future where Phoenix tookk over, and they killed her. Also after easily whooping Ironfist and powerman with one blast, and punking ironman a fight with the younger Xmen does not seem as un winnable.
