I'm using the lettering error in the first panel with Reed to make fun of Scott's giant-body-condom costume. He's not wearing the hood right now, but usually it looks, well, awful compared to - for instance - the Quietly-designed jacket outfit.

sorry, i have always found it hard that the FF can stand back and let stuff happen to Mutants when there SON (at least at present, often times in the past) is a Mutant too,....

Yeah, I've had a hard time simply accepting that supposedly good men like Reed Richards and Steve Rogers can be aware of all the good the X-Men have done, and how important they are, yet still say nothing whatsoever in defence of them when... say... William Stryker is leading crusades to kill them.

Just a teeny, tiny bugbear.

Yeah I KNOW! (though in Steve's defence, now that he is in charge of the planet he seems to be doing more to help them)

But yeah. Reed is too... ugh whats the term... not snobby... elitist...? that's not right either... his intellect makes things like that seem Trivial to him.

Steve has actually been shown speaking out for mutants in recent years, at least.

That's more a problem of the shared universe in general. Writers are constantly coming up with reasons to keep other characters out of certain situations, assuming they even care enough to write that(and often I can't blame them for not bothering as it gets in the way of the story they want to tell).

It becomes a bit of a deus ex machina if every time somebody wants to kill you you can call up Steve Rogers to have three teams of Avengers, the FF, and the combined firepower of a heli-carrier worth of SHIELD agents to take care of the terrorists you're facing.

It's the other side of the sword. If you want the good of being able to team up this guy and that guy then sometimes you feel like you have to explain why they're not teaming up this time.

I would love to have a helicarrier and the secret avengers show up at some anti-mutant blowup. Just kinda hover there menacingly.

This also the X-Men are somewhat treated as being in their own little world, when they have events usually all of the Marvel Universe is excluded and when the whole Marvel Universe has an event the X-Men (with the exception of Wolverine) don't participate or play a very minor role.

Only recently did we have the X-Men and the other characters interact in a more significant way, with Steve vouching for Scott and the mutant race (and teaming up with him and Hope in the negative zone mini), not to mention Namor joining up with the X-Men.

I was just reading the recently released trade of the whole 'Captain America No More' storyline from the late 80es, (A nice benefit of the film is that they finally released this in all it's glory!) And in it Steve as the Captain, is observing the fall out of the Inferno storlyine in Manhatten and lamenting how it's always the mutants who get bad press. He starts thinking about how he should maybe have some more mutants on the Avengers to maybe help bolster public support for them.

But then of course he gets sidetracked..For about 20 years! ;)

Wanda wasn't too bad until Bendis ruined her in the disassembled storyline.
But yeah, Pietro was always all over the place. Love how he tried to explain his most recent turn bad escapades on 'it was a skrull-honest!'
Maybe Cyclops should have tried that as well, For some of the bone headed moves he's made over the years!

The mutant CAUSE deserves more support from other heroes/teams, I won't disagree there.

But the X-Men as a team don't always play nice with others, and they sat out during Civil War.

The relationships between various Heroes and Teams in 616 are pretty arbitrary, though -- whether they are fighting side by side or trying to kill each other is usually based on rather contrived circumstances.

They did sit it out, but I thought at the time that Emma Frost was pretty much right in her reasoning.

Mutantkind was almost extinct, confined to a ghetto/reservation on the grounds of the mansion, guarded by Sentinels, and still hated by the majority of people. It made sense to me that they'd rather just sit that fight out.

They couldn't join Tony's side, because the Superhuman Registration Act would reveal to everyone where mutants where, and who they were. And as Emma told Ms. Marvel, when people know where mutants are, mutants die (one of my favourite moments in New X-Men, by the way).

And joining Cap would have just set them up to be persecuted even more.

I agree that the shared universe thing can be a problem with some stories they want to tell, but sometimes they should rethink the stories, rather than just tell them and pretend that readers won't wonder why the X-Men are so isolated and friendless. Because they're not.

I just hope Magneto's pensive look doesn't mean they'll aim for another hook up. His love stories are cringe-worthy, but most importantly, it'll cut back from the lolz.

Also, thank you second panel Emma, for summarizing why I don't like the way Emma's been portrayed for the past few years. It's hard to believe somebody's trying to atone for their past misdeeds when they're constantly laughing/bragging about them.

I kind of like that Emma and Sue are different types of blonde, it's nice when colorists take the time to further differentiate characters like that.

Doom: Bah, I messed with Dracula because he was a racist with an entitlement complex, if I did it to the Red Skull too, people would start to think that I'm more likeable than some of the heroes around at the moment.

Magneto: Not that that stopped you treating Black Panther exactly the same way.
