Scarecrow discovers the hard way what makes the Catwoman go bump in her mind.

From Catwoman #58: 1 page.

Fear Factor

Oh wow? someone actually gives Scarecrow nightmares? that's a first.

Anyway, Scarecrow manages to inject Selina with fear toxin, which causes her to hallucinate like whoa! before discovering she can fight back by conquering her fears. She then decides to test that theory further by injecting herself with a stronger potent hallucinogen, only to discover it doesn't work like she thought it would...

From Catwoman #60: 6 pages.

She certainly isn't afraid of silicon.
I never really liked this Scarecrow costume. I'm sure the fear gass makes it a lot worse but it looks too whimsical to me.

Eh, Balent.

Though I do admit that this is better art than I expected of him.

Balent's Catwoman was kind of self-absorbed wasn't she?

Doesn't that just make her more genuinely cat-like?

I suppose it does

I'm a cat person, and yet I don't like Balent's Catwoman. I'm not sure why there isn't that crossover. I never cared for Selina at all until Cooke and Brubaker got their hands on her.

because self-absorbtion in an animal is totally different from in a person?

Seriously if your worst fear is needing to depend on someone's help I'd enjoy seeing other's leaving you hanging.

Nope, Dependency totally can jump out at you from the shadows. Hallucinations are weird like that.

Infact i'm pretty sure that hallucination WAS dependency jumping out at you from the shadows.

Well its batman, his default state of being is "Jumping out at you from the shadows."

Great for crime fighting and surprise parties, not so much other situations.

That are is everything that was bad about the 90s comic art.

Clarification?

In that first page from #60, was there a reason Selina's hair was green? Or was that someone else?

The art was not some of the worst of Balent's...and that's the very definition of "damning with faint praise."

Weird "boobs don't work that way" and Selina constantly on her tip-toes aside, it is a pretty interesting look at her psyche. It makes sense that her relationship with Bruce would be both comforting and yet scary to her since she want to stay in control.

Wait, isn't this the story where Selina voluntarily injected HERSELF with fear toxin? Say what you will about Bronwyn Carlton's unloved run, but she at least played with the idea that Selina actually had to deal with the long-term consequences of dosing herself like that.

Was that the whole "Catwoman in Arkham" thing that was posted a while back? Where she was naked for most of it for no reason?

That Catwoman costume will always be my favorite but on this run I felt like Balent's art was lacking a little after the series went on. In the beginning it wasn't too bad.
