According to an on-set tipster who was in at the filming yesterday, Bane freed a bunch of inmates from Blackgate Prison and delivered (presumably) an anti-Batman screed:
"First scene: small explosion releasing horde of prisoners from the SEI Building (their prison), Bane gives a speech, holds up a photograph, tears it up to applause.
Second scene: horde of prisoners, carrying automatic weapons, yell and charge down the street. Followed by two Tumblers, painted tan and brown (same paintjob as the Batmobile before it was painted black in Batman Begins.) Bane is riding the one in the front, wearing his mask and a large winter coat."
Sounds interesting. And the look certainly seems a bit less silly than the luchador costume he ends up with a lot of the time in the comics, which kind of downplay how serious he is.

Date: 2011-07-31 10:38 pm (UTC)Secondly, as silly as it may look, this is all preliminary. Plenty of people mocked the shabby appearance of Ledger's Joker, as well as his 'The Crow'-style makeup, and then the trailers and the movie itself turn up, and BOOM! Iconic image.
Thirdly, speculation time! As the chanting and speech-making would imply, it seems that perhaps Bane's role in the film is modelled partly on the Mutant Leader from 'Dark Knight Returns', an iconoclastic gang-leader...perhaps implying that the theme of the film is leadership, just as that of 'Batman Begins' was fear and that of 'TDK' was chaos?
Nolan does seem to like the facial disguises, though, from Scarecrow's sack mask to Joker's scars, and this roaring monster is no different. I wonder if Bane's voice is going to have the gentlemanly purr of Hardy's role in 'Inception', or the cockney roar of his titular part in 'Bronson', or maybe he'll contrast the bulk and compliment the mask with a creepy rasp not unlike his Praetor Shinzon in 'Star Trek: Nemesis'?
In any case, I look tentatively forward to this film, especially the inevitable glimpses we'll get at Hathaway and stunt doubles as Catwoman, or a new souled-up Batsuit to take on Bane, or even a shot of a vehicle crashing into a building (the backbone of this series).
Or a couple of photos of Michael Caine being cool. I'd settle for that.
