Zatanna has gained more clothing, I guess?

So...  A friend linked me to Bleeding Cool and an article about DC and female comic book writers.  It also includes Zatanna's new costume.

I just face palmed through my hand and onto the floor.



Please tell me Flashpoint is AU.  To quote the friend who sent it to me: "She doesn't speak backwards to cast spells, she does reverse cowgirl."

It's a AU, sorta.

History was changed to 'Flashpoint universe' and by the end of the series it will get changed back, mostly the same. I think.

Not to defend the whole rampant sexism of Zattanna's costume, but...

In the issue itself we see a female character stated to be 12 years old stumbling around in her panties, drenched in blood. And she's beaten to death by a woman in her underwear.

Given that, Zattanna's pants are like a drop in the pool (of ugly, brain bleach crap).

Where on Earth (or any other planet) would you even get pants like that? I'd guess a fetish store, but frankly those look too ugly and lacking in function to even qualify for that.

If she had a bit more colors and maybe one more piece of clothing/accessory she could be a character in one of the newer Final Fantasy games, which always seem to feature at least one character with a piece of clothing that's inexplicably missing parts. It's like if Rikku (FFX) went emo, dyed her hair, and decided to show even more skin and parts of her thong, replacing the micro skirt with those awful things:

Can anyone tell me just what the point of FLASHPOINT was supposed to be?

Because all I've seen is this kind of garbage and worse. It seems like DC spending a whole summer wallowing in stuff that makes IDENTITY CRISIS look like LITTLE LULU.

I mean, it seems all about basically torturing their characters right in front of you. Who wants this stuff? I don't care that's it's an AU. It's BAD COMICS, and there is nothing more ugly than a bad comic.

Given that they DO seem to be pulled up, (the crotch is in the right place, but there's just no fabric above it) I don't think you could raise those pants any higher without possibly doing a serious injury to particularly sensitive area (Think wedgie, multiplied by about a thousand)

The biggest question I still have about Flashpoint is 'why is this being treated as an 'AU' and something that feels distinctly different from something that will be incredibly important, as DC is making out it's consequences to be?

I think, in setting up a bunch of separate minis and a lead event book, they've failed to make this event of real importance. if it's going to change the world as we know it, why haven't they done it in the regular books, like AoA for Marvel, with Flash as the lead book?

And +1 on the rubbishness of Zee's costume. From the look of things, she's going to have a few alternative looks post-reboot, but that's nothing new, given Seven Soldiers, and hopefully they're better than this.

It seems that most of the DCU will be 'fixed' or back to normal post-Flashpoint, but that any changes they want to make will be blamed on the Flashpoint fixes being not wholly successful. So it will be important to some events/characters and have minimal effect on others (the better selling lines).
