The two Roberts, Kirkman and Liefeld, have a new comic out.

The back of the issue contains a message from the creators:

What? Wow.

One of the best comic book writers active today paired up with one of the most notoriously bad artists around. I don't know how to feel about this!

Yknow the funny thing about Rob Liefeld? Even though he's well, Rob Liefeld, I actually here he's a really nice guy (hell there were some stories here on past S_D's about him) so its not too much of a surprise that Kirkman could easily collaborate with him.

I will never be able to look at Liefeld work the same way (Which I tend to try and avoid) after seeing this video he did, without thinking "Does this look like it was drawn by someone with none of the skills I personally consider important to composing comic-book art (Proportion, anatomy, perspective, clarity, feet, that sort of thing) , who was driving AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME? Why yes, I believe it does"

Hey look, everyone's a ventriloquist!

I couldn't even read the dialogue past the first page, because all I could focus on was teeth.

Maybe it's just the benefit of modern coloring, but... I kind of like the way this looks. (Holy shit, the men have necks AND shoulders!)

I guess I...huh. I don't know what to say, here. Liefield almost appears to be doing a cover of himself. The first page looks very generic, like one of the many Image imitators that appeared in the late 90s. The latter pages look like someone who doesn't have as much experience as Liefeld does.

I mean, compare the work of some artists from their first big score and then check on them 20 years later. Look at how Kirby matured, how guys like Perez, Adams, Byrne, Giffen and a host of others changed, developed and improved. Liefeld has had decades to, if not improve, then at least refine. He doesn't really seem to have done that.

This reads...well, it reads GODAWFUL. Kirkman writes better than this, normally.

I love how psychotic Julia looks in that close-up. I also really like how small everyone's mouths are.

So this is gonna have what, about two issues put out before Loserfield ditches it for Hawk and Dove, right? And then we'll have about three issues of Hawk and Dove before he gets bored.

So in the future they have tech that allow you to grow much taller even after you're way past twenty? I mean it's hard to believe they're the same guy, different ages, when the artist makes sure to show us they have completely different heights. >_>

POUCHES

TEETH

the girl on the first page looks like she steals souls for a living.

Apropos of nothing, my cousin wrote an article about the average number of exclamation points in a Liefield tweet. Finding out there is a 27-exclamation point tweet is bizarrely fascinating.

Anyone ever have that thing, where they're trying to read something, or follow along with like a movie or tv show, and their brain literally won't let them finish, as a survival mechanism?

Yeah, that's what this is like. Robert Kirkman, and Liefield having actually improved somewhat lulls you in, but then . . . suddenly . . .

STUPID!!!!!

STUPID EVERYWHERE!!!

AAARGH!!!

NO YOU DON'T BRAIN, YOU STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE!!!

I recall that Liefeld's writer on one of his previous projects was basically told to come up with dialogue to fit the pages he was drawing. Which makes me think Kirkman was given pretty much the same deal for some of Liefeld's disused Cable/Prophet/Deadsomethingblood/ pages he had lying around.

So, I have a very noob question, and I apologize for that.

I very often can't view the entirety of Imageshack images when posted here at s_d. The images truncate in a pixellated band. The images do not resolve when I click on them, nor when I'm signed into my Imageshack account.

Does anyone know what my problem is, and how I can fix it? Thanks very much.

I read the first two pages, and when Cable/Emp/Spartan/Grifter/etc. showed up, I was like, "I CAN'T CARE ABOUT THIS ANY LESS!" and stopped reading.
Seriously, you guys on S_D write better, more entertaining comments than this dialogue on a regular basis. I'm not wading through bad art to get what was already starting out as a cliched, horrible story. I did that in the 90s.

Oh... "Infinite," right?

At first I mistook that I N for an M, and I kept trying to read the title as "Mennonite." I was like "Wait, what?"

It's amazing how almost everything Liefeld draws also functions as a perfect summary of his work.
