Osborne. Bendis. Bleah. Two big thumbs down.

[personal profile] abriel 2011-08-10 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...once it worked. Twice...you're just milking it, especially since there really is no reason for it to come back.

Sure there is.

His recent min(Which was great, btw) set it up nicely. And after Fear Itself, the easily manipulated muggles of the MU now don't trust the Asgardians and are thinking that Osborn was right.

So i am looking forward to this.

They should keep Osborn from being used for a while yet. But that's just my humble opinion.

[personal profile] darkknightjrk 2011-08-10 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree--I'm of the opinion that, after Siege, Norman should have taken a good, long nap. Like, around the same length of time between his death and his resurrection in Clone Saga.

Do you say that about Doom too? I love how fans are always selective about this.

Popular villains always comeback and Osborn isn't the type to just sit back.

I'm not sure if it's even possible for me to care less about a new Dark Avengers.

Hell, give the Revengers in New Avengers a chance first, they have Anti-Venom on their roster!

I kinda wish this promo was Neal Adams art, but he's only doing the Point One.

(I'd also like to see a frothing Norman rant in the vein of Batman: Odyssey.. it'd work so well.)

Okay, Marvel, I get it. Even if I leave DC, I won't start reading your books. You don't have to do this crap just to keep readers away.

As far as I'm concerned, Norman Osborn died in Amazing Spider-Man #122.

Nothing Marvel has published since has convinced me otherwise.

I don't give a fuck about their retcons. It's just getting old. He's not Marvel's Lex Luthor. He's more like Vince McMahon.

And I've got better things to do than read what Marvel considers "edgy" these days. Most of them involve toenails or paint.
thehood: (Default)

[personal profile] thehood 2011-08-11 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, he was doing the business man villain thing before Luthor(He was just a mad scientist at first). He's also does with much more flare.

And you are wrong slick, bringing him back was a good thing and he has climbed the ladder of villainy quite nicely.

I am of the opinion that the only person allowed to write Osborn from now on is DeConnick.

Also, I just read Alias the other day. What the HELL happened to Bendis!? How did his writing get so bad/cliche?

I liked Dark Avengers, I loved the miniseries.

Not sure it's the right time for a revisit of it, though; but then again, let's wait & see how it turns out.
randyripoff: (Barry Ween)

[personal profile] randyripoff 2011-08-10 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, let's see.

I strongly dislike Norman Osborn because he's dead and I'm sick of Marvel pushing him down our throats. He had his time, it's over, go away, die...again.

I dislike Bendis's writing because IMO I think he's brutally overrated. The only thing he writes well is crime--and really that not so well. Alias worked out only because he was working with a blank slate in Jessica Jones. I think his endings are poor, he writes almost every pre-existing character out of character to suit his plots--to me that's poor writing. Put him on a comic where he gets to write only non-super underworld types and cops--normal, non-super cops--and I think he'd do a good job.

I disagree with your assessment about Osborn and about Bendis, but I'm glad you like them.
thehood: (Default)

[personal profile] thehood 2011-08-11 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Except Osborn isn't "dead" and he's one of their top villains. What, just because you don't like a character you think they should be killed off, even if other people like him?

I also disagree with you about Bendis.
randyripoff: (Blue Devil)

I think the timing is interesting, considering they're teasing this at the same time they're promoting Simon Williams' Revengers for the Annual, considering while not identical ideas, there are definite similarities.

I'm curious to see what Osborn's status is going to be. This is the second time that Bendis has had him very publicly go off the deep end and be sent to prison only to get out not long after. Is he out legally and if so, is he still going to be associating with HAMMER now that it's essentially a terrorist organization? To what end are the Dark Avengers being organized? Are they explicitly going after the other two teams or is he going to be presenting them as an independent third(since the Secret Avengers are supposed to be... a secret) force doing things the other two won't for whatever reason?
thehood: (Default)

[personal profile] thehood 2011-08-11 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, after Fear Itself, the general population don't trust Asguardians , so they might see the events of FI as proving Osborn right in attacking asgard.

There were also the events of his mini.

Still, this time it will be mainly in the NA book.

I liked Dark Avengers so I'd be curious to see where they go with this, but I can't take Batroc the Leaper seriously.

Maybe, it kinda looks like his mask.

But it looks like he's got a bow over his shoulder. So another evil Hawkeye?

If I recall correctly, Dark Avengers was a consistent top-ten, near 100,000 copies per issue hit. Could that possibly have any tangentially remote relevance?

Speaking of tangents, MISFITS avoids all the mistakes HEROES made.
