What we know about the DC reboot.

Lois and Clark are not married, nor have they been married.
Lois has a boyfriend called Jonathan Carroll
Batman's history is largely unchanged, and has happened in the last 5 years.

This means that stories like Death in the Family and Hush are in continuity.

This is how I think it ties together, from Batman #611

Seamless, no?

Betting that Lois would find a website like this utterly hilarious.

Weird. Not wierd, weird.

Sorry, pet peeve. Also, kinda not loving the changed dialogue. It highlights everything I'm gonna hate about reboot Supes.

It's funny, but I don't think that's exactly where it's going to go--I'm thinking that in the modern continuity Clark's going to be square in the Friend Zone.

I'm so glad that DC rebooted so that now Superman can be seen by his colleagues as a creepy stalker!

To be fair, I believe she did that first in Superman: The Movie.

So Lois's new boyfriend is that guy from Superman Returns mixed with Jersey Shore?

Have they explicitly said that Batman's entire history is going to be shoehorned into the 5 years?

I've been thinking that they're just going to say that Batman has been operating as an official 'Superhero' for five years but spent time before that as the 'urban legend' vigilante so they could have maybe a 10 year cushion for all the Bat-family development, which is still a tight fit but more plausible than 5 years.

Actually, how far back is 'Action Comics' supposed to start before 'Superman'? Maybe Clark's 't-shirt period' can be parallel to that?

On Batman: I think they said that they're going to take some stuff out to streamline it, but I would assume that Hush, being one of the bigger stories, would count.

As for Superman--I think they said something like a year or so before Justice League happens, so Clark has around that time with the t-shirt period.

This whole reboot is sounding more and more like a bigger clusterfuck than the time they did any of the Crisis story arcs.

I'm honestly failing to see merit behind making massive changes to the Superman characters while leaving most of the Bat characters intact.

From what I've heard, it's ten years.

If Dick was still Robin from twelve to eighteen, that leaves five years for Jason, Tim, and Damian. But I don't think there's any information on who was Robin when.

The weird thing is that Didio has said that Batman:Hush is STILL in continuity (as is Identity Crisis) and yet not only are L&C an important part of that story (for 2 issues at least) but DC still hasn't said how that works (or is Didio using the Countdown model where after that story tanked he started saying everything in it "still happened, but not exactly in the same way"?

I love Lois and Clark being unmarried BFFs :D

I just hope those teaser pages from nuSuperman and the various comments by creators talking about Lois like she's a thing to be acquired are just horrible missteps that will quickly be dropped and replaced with something enjoyable.

I'm sure it is--I mean, the bulk of that story is being told by George bloody Perez. It's not like the dude has a horrible record writing women.

Again, with the DCnU it means that every story that features multiple characters makes little to no sense. If I recall the story right, the reason Bruce went to the Planet was so that Clark would know he was in Metropolis and they could team up or whatever. Now Bruce shows up at the Planet to flirt with Lois with Perry?

In situations like that, you simply assume the story happened in a slightly different way.

There was a lot of this sort of thing after the first Crisis too. For example, post-Crisis, the JLA's history was kept intact, but over in Wonder Woman's book, it was saying she was never a founding member of the team. So all those old Silver Age JLA stories still happened, only Wonder Woman was no longer in them. What if there was an old JLA story where she played a pivotal role? You simply assume that adventure played out differently. Same for any JLA story that involved an element of pre-Crisis Superman, like Lex Luthor the wanted mad scientist (as opposed to billionaire Lex). All those stories involving mad scientist Lex? Just assume they happened somewhat differently.

If that seems confusing, keep in mind that the DC Universe you've been reading up to now has been in this very state I'm describing. The DC Universe has had this sort of thing going on since the first Crisis.

'or is Didio using the Countdown model where after that story tanked he started saying everything in it "still happened, but not exactly in the same way"?'

Pretty much, yeah. That's the way it works whenever a story references elements no longer in continuity. I go into it more in my response to crazycomiccult below...
