The emergence of Crazy Quilt on next weekend's episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold sent me looking for Robin's first encounter with him.

That was in 1951, when the villainous artist appeared in Star-Spangled Comics, #123.

Not until 1979 did Len Wein establish that Crazy Quilt was more obsessed with Robin than with Batman. However, there was an early danger sign: Crazy Quilt sprayed Robin with a chemical that made his clothes shrink.

Allow me to hijack this thread and talk about Batman: The Brave and the Bold. (which I have now watched a few episodes off)

IT IS AWESOME.

Seriously.

I love the fact that they actually keep Batman's grumpy personality intact. They just put in in a world of Silver-age crack. And Batman is comedy gold, becasue his reactions are the same when riding reindeer as when solving murders.

Also, the christmas episode was the cutest thing I've seen since Chiyo-chan in a penguin-suit.

Seriously, it is both insane and awesome, and it is awesome BECAUSE it is insane!

It's also got to be on a par with "Transformers Animated" for the sheer number of in-jokes and easter eggs it shoves in (Like most of the villains in Gotham Jail being villains from the 1960's TV series.)

Looking at how popular Robins are (for various sexu- I mean practical reasons) I can imagine some guy somewhere who's making a killing selling them to fetishi- I mean villains and of course, third party organizations with no identity to speak of (read: Bruce).
