I think this is part of the same scene. FQ says "kill a dragon", and he's on the fence about it. So princess explains what the deal is, and he says okay.

oh heh, sorry i've never read the Faery Queen. so i am completely unfamiliar with this... (the only faery queen i know is Titania)

Ah, the actual poem starts mid-quest, and doesn't show Redcrosse and Una meeting, so I thought that a little detour to show it might be good before the... craziness that happens almost immediately upon entering the story.

Because if just about anyone other than Spenser had written The Faerie Queene, it would've been mentioned.
